Dry firing works

Post by AR15barrels »

I have had two customers in the last week with brand new 700 5r rifles that had me do bolt knobs and mount scopes.
I showed each of them how to get behind the rifle, control the rear bag, proper natural point of aim and sent them on their way to do lots of dry firing and work on having a steady sight picture while they break the trigger.

Well, one of them (Corey) came out to angeles this morning.
I bore sighted the gun as best I could and had him fire a 5 round group.
Three of the 5 rounds made a single hole.
The first shot went an inch low.
The 5th shot went just left of the large single hole.

Now keep in mind, these are the first 5 rounds that he has EVER fired from a bolt gun.
They are also the first 5 rounds fired from the gun as it was brand new and unfired before today.

After some 100yd group shooting, we continued on out to 400 and 600yds and were hitting MOAish targets.

So, read the fundementals sticky in this subforum and dry fire at home, a LOT.
Dry firing works.
God shoots a Remington 700, drives a Chevy Truck and carries a Glock 19.
I don't do any of those things.

I got NF 5.5-22x50 SFP

Yup, I love to go to the range and try my rifle, unfirtunately, I am relieving my supervisor who went on vacation for 2 weeks, out of state. I will working straight til, Sep 10, 24 hrs oncall on week end. I might be able to go to the range on week end if there's no sched patient in the AM and just leave as soon as I get called.

Whats your scope?

I just need to contend to dry firing for now. :P :thumb:

Cheers,

I was looking at nightforce, but they were too much $$$ for me. I got a Viper PST 6-24x50 FFP mil/mil. I don't have anything to compare it to but I am super happy with it.
