Burro or Angeles this Saturday 1/8/11

Post by pklin1297 »

Hello all,

I am itching to run out and finally shoot my new Howa for the first time, and with my hand loaded ammo. Planning to go to Burro Canyon this Saturday since I haven't been there in ages. Does anyone know if they might be closed due to storm damage like Lytle Creek and West End? I have sent an email and will be calling them later to see, but just wondering if anyone knew off hand.

If Burro is not available I plan on going to Angeles which I believe is open since another shooter I know was just there about two Sundays ago.

Is anyone going to either of these ranges this Saturday? I would love to meet some CAPRC members, and get some shooting tips. :D

I plan to check out Burro first at 9 AM when they open, if not available then I'll head to Angeles and get there probably around 10 AM from Azusa.

I'll be at Angeles on Saturday as well. I'll be the guy that is trying to figure out why I need to learn how to shoot side prone.

Yeah, I know how you feel. I may just get some side prone dopes as well  . Might as well just get it out the way so I can practice something useful.

Peter you may want to head over to Angeles instead. Sounds like there will be a good size group there and plenty of people to pick their brains and help you out.

Unfortunatly I have Honey-do's in the morning but may get out in the afternoon to check zero before Sundays match.

The burro range doesn't go out very far. I would suggest Angeles. Atleast you can get your dope out to 600.

Well, I guess I'll have to look into going out to Angeles...

I'll be shooting my first bolt rifle for the first time, so everything I do will be elementary, but it'll be great to hang with you guys. I have shot bolt action rifles before, just not mine. :D

I've never been to Angeles but I assume I should go to the concrete benches section? Anything I should know before going out there?

Bring eye protection as it as mandatory. DO NOT cross the yellow line during a line break and bring a couple extra bucks cuz their hot link hot dogs are pretty damn good lol

I'll have the other usual shooting gear.

Home Depot has precut 3'x5' carpet rugs for $13 that work pretty nice as well.

Thanks GforceJunkie. I found the tacticool camo mover's blanket at Harbor freight tonight ($11.99, 72"x80"), so I'll be using that this Saturday to give prone shooting a try.

Would someone please take a tape measure to the range tomorrow?
I need to know about how much space there is between each shooting bench top at the front of the bench as well as how tall the benches are.
I need these dimensions asap on saturday to make a prop for sunday.
If you could call me from the range in the morning, that would be even better!

Good idea.
Make the barricades smaller so they are even LESS stable.
Let me know how that works out for you...

Hello all,

I got there around 9:20 this morning, and all concrete bench lanes were taken!

I am sorry I didn't get to meet the people who were there, except for David (don't know handle name here) whom I met around 2 PM after I got done at the black benches on the other side. Great meeting you Dave, hope you get the NF knob adjustment question answered!

Also have to apologize to Randall, who sent me a message regarding measuring the benches after I volunteered to do so, but I didn't check messages between last night and this morning when I left so I completely missed it. Sorry Randall, I am usually a lot more responsible than this...

On a better note, my first ever visit to Angeles shooting range was a great one. Of all the trips I've taken to West End and Lytle Creek, I can't remember a time where there was no wind under 10 - 15 miles/hour, most of the time more, but at Angeles today it was calm and very pleasant; I think I have found a favorite range.

My new Howa and USO combo shot well for me. My first bolt action rifle, first .308, and first rifle scope combo... I have plenty more work to do to catch up to you all, but I am happy with the results today and encouraged; this gun has potential and I believe it will perform better if and when I do my part (cliche I know). I will post groups in the rifle section where it is supposed to be.

I will try to make it to clinic A in about two weeks. Lots to learn from you all.
