New Shooters Read This Please!!!!!

Thanks for all of the help. I'll practice mil dot hold overs and see if I can still do it. I used to be good at it when I was only shooting my friend's HS 22-250. One last question- Only bolt guns I have are a Savage 10fp in .308 and a Win 70 heavy barrel 223. Both have Harris bi-pods. Is there any site or thread (or video) you guys can reccomend for info on positional shooting? I'm assuming I'll need to know about it if I'm going to shoot a match, correct?

Some matches have positions and some don't. Go through the match AAR threads and look for John Lee's videos. That should give you a basic idea but it's standing, kneeling, sitting and weak side. There are 2 sub categories of each position either supported or unsupported meaning you cannot use a set of sticks or a pack or bag. Slings are usually allowed in unsupported but just ask the match director to confirm

New shooters: me, john, jeff and perhaps others will be at ASR Sunday morning. Come on down if you want some help, guidance, run through a few practice stages, etc.

I plan on shooting in competitions now that I finally finished where I want my rifle to be. My only concern is I am still learning and dont want to be the lone-man out, where all the good shooters stick together and all the new shooters are looked over.

It's not like that at all. Get to the range early and start talking to the people setting up. Maybe offer to help set up and before you know it you will have someone helping you through the whole match. Try to sign up next to the person helping you. This worked for me. Just remember your there to learn and have fun..

I shot my first match in March and it was nothing but a learning experience. Came in third to last but it did not matter I walked away understanding what I need to work on for the next match. What matters is that I showed up. A wise man told me once If you walk away learning at least one thing the experience is worth it.

I just recently purchased my Remington 700 SPS Tactical. Aside from having to save up for some rings, a scope, and some Match ammo (at least until I get setup to start reloading 308). I'd have to say; intimidation, whether or not I have the right gear, and lack of overall know how

But I'll humbly suck it up and show up to a clinic as soon as I have everything I'm saving up for
