We don't post directions to the spot to avoid vandalism. Please join us at the next shoot. You can follow the caravan.

I Live in San Diego, Where does the Caravan Meet up? How far from there? What GENERAL area is the site located?

The site is in Tehachapi... We meet in the AM of the shoot usually off Newhall ave and the 14.

I'm somewhat of a newbie here and have a few questions.
1) isn't there some sort of law against discharging firearms on public property?
2) Would I need a hunting liscence or some other kind of liscence to have loaded firearms on public land?
3) is shooting at this location 100% clear cut legal and if so can you point in the direction of any relevant laws pertaining to shooting on public land?
4) at angeles range I'm able to hit 3 to 5" in groups at 100 yards with turkish nato ammo. I installed the scope myself and I could use some help getting it zeroed. (the gun is more accurate than i am) I can also hit the targets at 600 yards most of the time at angeles range. Should I come to course fire A or course fire B?

I hate to be a sceptic, but I try to be careful.

The land is managed by the BLM so target shooting is legal.

Nope, just don't shoot any animals, or your poaching.

Laws outline what is illegal, since this is legal there aren't really laws pertaining to it. If it makes you feel more comfortable check out the BLM's website, where they talk about target shooting and where it can and can't be done.

Neither, come to course of fire C. It will be the most useful for you. I'm assuming you don't reload, so pick up some Federal Gold Medal Match ammo to bring out. Turkish ammo wont cut it.

Yes, please bring some match grade ammo so that you can get the most from the shoot. You need to be able to shoot more like 1" groups at 100 to get a good feel for the whole long range precision rifle thing. What kinda rifle do you have?

Remington 700 pss .308 win with harris bipod, tally rings, and 4.5-14x50 zeiss conquest with the rapid z 1000 ballistic reticle

i kinda installed the scope myself with a bubble level to the best of my ability, But i look forward to having someone check it who is more accurate than i am. I'm hitting the targets though.

I wasn't looking forward to spending half the day zeroing so I finally got around to re-working the order and courses of fire to make the most sense.
New shooter is at angeles where it's easier to do the class and zero session.
The precision targets and positions can also be done there.
Only the longrange will be at the spot now and that will be for people that have already got zeros and understand how to gather dope so that they can best spend the time learning to shoot in wind.

I'm going to make a blue gun out of an old stock and barrel with an aluminum reciever.
It will have some sort of trigger in it that you can dry fire.
It will have a picatinny rail with a real scope.
It will be weighted like a real gun.
We will use this for the training so we can start the class portion of the day before the angeles line goes hot and gets real loud.
I wish I could get this done before next weekend, but it's not gonna happen...

I agree it makes more sense for the club. I just love banging steel at the spot. Its always just a fun relaxing day to look forward to. Oh well.... i might have to make a solo trip soon to get my fix.

This is awesome news for me! I 've been wanting to go shoot course A with you guys for some time now but I have to go to work early on Saturdays/Sundays for a couple of hours so now that you guys are moving it to Angeles it should make it easier for me to attend

Maybe I missed it in the original post, but around what times do the meet-ups start and end? I'd like to try and make it out to Sac Valley this weekend, if I can, to see what it's like to shoot past 100 yards with my new R700.

I believe you want the Nor-Cal train-up not the So-cal one.

dont know im curious about one of the A classes early next year but its just not really cost effective for me to drive up there, crappy mileage in my ranger. Anyone in S.D, Tem, Murrieta that wants to car pool?

im a new and want to learn precision shooting i have a rem 700 sps tac in .223. my question is, is that worth coming with or should i wait intil i get a .308? i shoot at angeles range 2 or 3 times a week but need some sort of real practice where i could learn a thing or two.

I posted this question on thread about practice last weekend but I think it should have been posted here. I am new to rifle shooting and would really like to get training to zero out my rifle, etc. It appears if everyone is shooting larger calibers (.308) whereas I have a .223. Would that be an issue? Also would I need a real scope or is something similar to an ACOG okay? Thanks again

A 223 is fine, but you need a real target scope as we are teaching the use of target knobs.
We are also shooting sub-moa targets so your gun/ammo need to be able to shoot at least 1moa or better.

Randall usually post a thread for the shoots about a week before the actual shoot. From what I understand there is no reservations it is a first come first serve type of thing.

I use to post the shoot announcements 3 weeks out.
They would fill up almost as fast, but we would lways have a bunch of people flake out.
I found that if I post the announcement just 1 week away, that we still fill up, but everyone shows up because they know what their weekend schedule is going to be like.

There should be no question about when the club shoots are as they are clearly listed in the tacked threads in the practice and monthly matches subforums.
All you have to do is watch for the announcement thread and RSVP once it's posted.

I can put you on the standby list when registration opens up, but people that have attended Course A will have priority.

Hi Randall,

I also have a proper 100 yd zero on my 308 and have had lots of practice at Angeles hitting targets up to the 600 yard mark. I have not attended neither Course A or B but in the event that a spot opens up could you also put me on that reserve list? I will bring my gear with me but if there isn't a spot open I'll gladly just watch as well and pitch in with the BBQ.

I have a new 700 sps tac aac sd comin on the 19th. Never been to the A course. I went the cheap route on my scope and mounts just to get something on there so I could shoot. Leupold rifleman 2 piece base and med rings. BSA 6-24x40 with mil dot reticle. Hopefully I'll have enough saved up for a better optic before January... I have been to burrow alot shooting 100 and 200 with a 100 yard zero and some holdover @ 200 on 3x. Haven't shot past 200. I used to shoot a savage 111 in 30.06. I sold it to force myself to buy a 700. Sign me up for the "A course" please. Are shooting bags allowed? Should I get a bipod instead?

Get a bipod and rear sand sock. The Harris 6-9, notched leg, swivel is the one to get and either make or buy a rear sand sock (Triad Tactical has both).
Your choice of optics and mounts is going to be the limiting factor in your rig. Might be OK for 600yd but that's going to be it. Start reloading your own match ammo.

I already reload. Now I just need a neck sizing die for .308 since this caliber was only for my semi before. So you think I should be able to get out to 600 with that cheap scope? I have alot of RL-15 but I only have 155 grain A-Max. I was reading that alot of people like 168+ for longer range shooting. I don't have alot of money for optics. I was looking into the Leupold rifleman 3-9X40 mostly because of the price. K_labs, check out this scope instead, Bushnell 3200 10x mil/mil scope. Its only $20 more and has more features that are better suited for LR shooting and its clearer/brighter too, ime.

Welcome, Randell will post a thread about the train ups usually a week before to sign up as it is first come first serve. Stick around and soak up some knowledge and come out to the match and just hang out and meet a bunch of great guys.

Yeah I would be interested in car pooling,,I live in Oceanside and have been itching to go to the A class,, couple problems for me is I dont own a bolt gun yet.. I do own a couple of those black ones though but currently glass free ( no scope) on both.. Wife says I can buy whatever toys I want, but the down side is I gotta get a job first.. tough call... try'n to decide on the Remmy SPS and build it or the P and save for good glass..

If it is cool with the instructor for me to be by stander and take notes, then I can use that info to set up my gun when she finally comes home, then retake the A course ..

Heck I'd be game to car pool up to a match/meet just to watch/help.. just give me a little notice
