Not to worry, I will shot on east side of rifle range. My chrono doesn't like tree shadows.
It might be on its last leg though, was getting random readings last time in the sun....

Can you elaborate on that? Any tips on using a Pro Chrono Digital model?DirtRacer151 wrote: Your chrono sounds like it's performing normal to me....
I know it likes overcast days, but it usually gives reliable velocity reading in the full sun. It can be affected by muzzle blast from nearby benches, at least mine does. I have learned to filter noise and throw out a few outliers.
But last time it didn't do well in the very beginning. I was shooting ABLR 210, 76.3gr H1000, out of a 300WM with 24" barrel. Its velocity should be around 2750 to 2800 fps, which I know based the past test of 76.1gr and 76.5gr. Also confirmed by 300yd shots later. Here is data I got during my first 8 shots period. There are 45 velocity data recorded! Only one of them seems make sense, that is 2777 fps. The Duracell battery is not fresh, with a few hours usage on it. No err or low battery message. Not sure what happened.
But later it did settle down and give reasonable velocity reading. So I need to go back Sunday and test again.

My point is that chronos are inconsistent and finicky pieces of shit. It sounds like yours is living up to its reputation. People who use them are pretty much wasting time and barrel life shooting through one.

Dope is the king. But a chrono is still useful for finding loads with low ES.

Useful in theory. The problem is they're rarely ever accurate enough to give you accurate results.flyingspur wrote:Dope is the king. But a chrono is still useful for finding loads with low ES.
You could just be like Ryan Kerr...pick a load...no OCD leading techniques....shitty reloading equipmemt....go out and win the national finale on a barrel with 2500 rounds through it using the same load as day 1. That might be to simple for you though.

I wish it is so simple. To win at that level, talents and training matter a lot more than a gun capable of tinny groups.DirtRacer151 wrote:

I spent as little effort as possible with reloading. I tumble the brass for 10 minutes, neck size it with lee, use redding body die only when it is absolutely necessary, throw every charge. I don't check run out much now since I learned to use good brass...
But I do have a confession to make, I mess with too many different guns and bullets. A large portion of my range time was spent on finding a good load for this gun with that bullets.

Re: Angeles 10/12...
My trip down the OCD rabbit hole did me no favors at Surefire, in fact it actually contributed to my mental fuck up. It seems to work for Solomon but I was doing fine with just the chargemaster before.

How does being OCD mess up your shooting up? It wasn't operator error?

Re: Angeles 10/12...
Absolutely it was operator error, or more to the point operator hubris. I decided to push my load to the top of the node since I was able to charge so accurately with the AND scale. Of course I completely spaced on the fact it was going to be 90°-100° in Tehachapi with 10 shot strings, which as expected pushed me out of my node. I suppose it was a good lesson to learn but one I should have realized in the first place. Although something is still making the gun shoot .2 mils right after the first couple rounds, either the scope or the muzzle brake (according to Ray).gau17 wrote:How does being OCD mess up your shooting up? Not true. Well not completly. LoL.
Utah my hybrids stopped grouping because the lands moved too far. I still can't get them to group past 200. No my fault.
The other time you might be correct.

Anyone have a set of Med. or High 34mm rings I can use on Sun.? The 56mm Razor touches the barrel with the low ARC rings.

Re: Angeles 10/12...
The integral rail on a surgeon is lower than a bolt-on rail used on 700's so I have commonly run into needing to run 1 size taller rings on surgeon receivers.evo wrote:Anyone have a set of Med. or High 34mm rings I can use on Sun.? The 56mm Razor touches the barrel with the low ARC rings.
I think I have some medium badgers if you want to try them.
