Ares Armor Tactical Training - Sniper 1 Course
Hey guys just got home from a kick ass class at the Sewet gun range, put on by Ares Armor Tactical Training. It was the Basic Sniper 1 Course taught by Tyler Hughes. What a great course with great instructors. I will try to do a write up this week with more info.

Re: Ares Armor Tactical Training - Sniper 1 Course
Do we really need things called "sniper" courses on this forum? Really guys if you want to be a sniper might I recommend the Army.

I think what Charles meant, was posting about this particular course would have been better suited for say SnipersHide rather than this website.ScottC wrote:Calm down Francis, they named it not me.

My point is you're not sniper training unless your planning on shooting people. If so, go in the arm forces. If not? quit calling shit sniper this and that it's only going to bring heat we don't need.

Pretty sure the government will start calling precision rifles and hunting rifles "high-powered sniper weapons" before too long, so relax man. It wasn't his choice to call the course sniper-whatever.264Charlie wrote:My point is you're not sniper training unless your planning on shooting people. If so, go in the arm forces. I think you pretty much made his point for him.....
I'm also against calling anything we do sniperish for fear of negative backlash down the road. I would think a true "sniper" course would have more to do with stalking and hiding then precision rifle shooting. That's just my opinion on the diffence...

Re: Ares Armor Tactical Training - Sniper 1 Course
Ah.... Scott has already done that if I recall correctly..... And so has his father.... Anyway, in this current climate, I suppose it could be called something else... I am up for any and all training if taught by credible people. I do not know anything about the Ares group other than they came to one of our matches and they are trying to set up a monthly match and a yearly event...
Scott, if you'd like, post up what you thought of the course. I would be interested in hearing about it...

I totally agree with you on your point, I just don't see the wisdom of Charlie biting off the head of the original poster for something over which the original poster had no control.DirtRacer151 wrote:

I see what you mean...but I didn't take it as charlie attacking Scott. After all Scott didn't make up the course name. Maybe I'm wrong but that's just not how I took it. I saw it as more of a general statement.jshoebot wrote: I totally agree with you on your point, I just don't see the wisdom of Charlie biting off the head of the original poster for something over which the original poster had no control.

Hey 264 Charlie no offense taken here. I understand with the climate like it is. I like this site and would like to see it continue. After I put my kids to sleep I plan on doing the write up tonight. Got off the phone with Tyler today and what a great guy. Would like to see him and his organization do well in the future.

Re: Ares Armor Tactical Training - Sniper 1 Course
Alright here we go. Fair warning I went to a so so public school and I did not pay much attention while I was there.
Day one - This was the classroom part I hate and the thing I need to work on the most. We went over the Fundamentals of Marksmanship.
I found out how bad mine really are. One of the first things Tyler noticed is the length of pull on my rifle was way too long. I have been shooting that way for years and had no idea it was that bad. This was the first of many bad habits he and his team found. My shooting position was also way left of being in a straight line behind the rifle. All of this was found in the first couple of hours before the first round went down range. Another hole in my game is my ability to help my fellow shooter make corrections. Right now I am worthless to anyone until I learn my math. I will be working hard on this over the next couple of months. Most of day one range time was spent on getting people zeroed and working on the fundamentals.
Day two - We started off reconfirming zero and working our way out to three hundred yards. This was also where one of the other instructors, Ryan Visket, found one of my other problems. I was squeezing the rifle with my trigger hand like I was mad at it...he had me try something new and my group size shrunk in half. I could not believe it.
Day three - We started off at four hundred yards, we only got out to nine hundred yards becuse of weather and other unforseen problems. My nine hundred started with a bad wind call on my part. Missed the first one but ended the day with seven hits in a row on a target that was 19in wide and 36in tall. Needless to say I was pleased with the weekend and what I had learned.
I would like to thank Tyler Hughes, Ryan Visket, Steve Langford, and Chuck Robbison. These guys have crazy knowledge and not a big ego among them. The course is worth every dime and before you try to purchase the "next tacti-cool add-on" take this course to work on the fundamentals.

Re: Ares Armor Tactical Training - Sniper 1 Course
Hey Scott, thank you for the awesome write up. I really appreciate it. Im glad you had a good time and i hope to see you in the future at our Sniper II course. As for the name of the course people, no i will not change it. I named the course because I am a Sniper, A Marine Scout Sniper, and i teach Sniper methods. I can sit here and write a huge paragraph about my course and how it relates to being a sniper, but i would rather you come out and see for your self. That is all.

Steven,
You can attend the Sniper II course without attending the Sniper I. We require that the attendee be experienced.

Re: Ares Armor Tactical Training - Sniper 1 Course
Hi Guys - I wanted to give everyone a heads up that Tyler Hughes is now teaching under Max Ordinate Academy - formerly Ares Armor Tactical Training. Same great courses and guys, just under a different name. If you'd like to see the write up I posted about the Sniper 1 course I took earlier this year, it is in the previous posts above.
