CaPRC Marksmanship Clinic "B" 4-28-13

Come on out and join us at Angeles for the 2nd part of our new precision rifle shooter series of clinics on Sunday April 28th.
This shoot will have you gathering dope from a 100yd zero out to 600yds as well as work on spotting and calling shots and making corrections from calls.
We wil be continuing with using the features of the scope and how to make accurate soft dope from your hard dope using ballistics software.
You need to have attended (as a shooter) one of our former "A" clinics during 2012 or 2013 in order to attend this clinic as a shooter.
We will limit this to 24 shooters so that those shooters can get maximum range time.
Fees are $75 for non members or $60 for club members.
The entry fee covers the classroom sessions, cold drinks and BBQ lunch and your use of the range for the rest of the day after the clinic is over.
Plan on a full day as the schedule has us shooting until at least 3pm.
You may particpte as a non-shooter, observe the shooting portion of the day and join us for the BBQ for a reduced $20 non-shooter fee.
Tentative schedule as follows:
7:15 Sign-in
7:30 Classroom session on the firing line.
8:15 line goes hot. verify, correct and zero knobs at 100yds (5-10 rds)
10:00 open shooting time with instruction as needed
12:00 BBQ lunch break
1:00 open shooting time with instruction as needed
Some things to bring:
Precision rifle wearing a scope with target knobs, eye/ear protection, sunscreen, chamber flag, 80 rounds of match quality ammo, printout from a ballistics program showing your bullet drop in moa or mils as appropriate to your scope, shooting mat or blanket, bipod, some kind of rear bag or sand sock, small notepad and a pencil or pen to take notes.
Bring what you have, don't worry too much about what you don't have.
We always make do with what we have.
This is a
Precision Rifle event so if the gun/scope/ammo is not capable of shooting 1moa groups, it will detract from your overall experience at the shoot.
Please have your rifle zeroed at 100yds and your knobs set to zero before you arrive on the day of the shoot.
We will verify a correct zero at the shoot, but it takes time that is better spent putting rounds on targets.
We are also looking for our experienced club members to show up and help instruct.
If you are able to help on the line, please RSVP anytime.
RSVP's for CaPRC club member shooters will be accepted after 12 noon on Wed 4/17/13.
RSVP's for non club member shooters will be accepted after 12 noon on Friday 4/19/13.
Any RSVP's posted before those times will be ignored or deleted.

I would like to register for Part B.
I might not be able to shoot due to my mangled thumb

but I will still like to do the classroom and interact in anyway I can during the shooting part.
I hope this is cool.
Oh....BTW, I joined at Part A. Is there any sort of paperwork or member ID/number etc that I should be getting?

I don't think so. You're screen name just turns green on this site. I can ask Steven to give you a hug at the "B" clinic if it will make you feel better.
FYI - You should be able to shoot w/o using your thumb.

Yeah, I know friend......that's why I said....."
I might not be able to shoot due to my mangled thumb" I'm just not sure, but I would like to.
I know I can operate the bolt under normal conditions etc, reload the mag with my left, pull the trigger and hold the stock.....'cos I don't usually wrap my thumb around. But any sort of screw up on my part where I miscalculate, grab something wrong, bang the tip of my thumb..... could have disastrous consequences. I'd rather not chance it. So I will see how much stronger my hand is on the day.
If it were not for my guitar playing future......I wouldn't worry about it so much.
There is also the whole reloading process that adds a whole 'nuther level, and potential for re-injury, to the situation. If I could just find FGMM at reasonable prices, i'd just do that.

Hello. Guess this is as good a place as any to introduce myself.
My name is Miles, I've been shooting pistols and ar's for a few years now, and recently decided to get into precision shooting. So after lots of research, lots from here, I went out and bought a 700 sps tactical in .308 w/ vortex viper pst 4-16ffp mrad. Then I contacted Nathan for the mounts and the rings. He did more than sell them to me. He actually let me bring the rifle and scope to his garage and then he aided the mounting and install (by aided, I really mean "he did it all himself and provided a wealth of information"). Thanks Nathan.
After lots of online learning and videos, I took my new girl up to Angeles today. Sighted her in at 50yds first, glad I did since with my apparently poor boresighting skills I wasn't even hitting the target with the first few rounds at 50, it took me 14 rounds total before I felt she was good and pushed her back to 100yds, then zeroed her in again. Set my CRS shims, and spent the next few hours really enjoying the peaceful science of it.
While I wasn't able to attend the "A" clinic, I was hoping I might be able to attend this "B" clinic on the 28th if it's not full yet. However I do understand rules are rules and the reasons for them. Regardless I look forward to siphoning as much knowledge as possible from this forum as I progress.

Noob question, but is there a suggested ballistics program to use? I looked up FGMM 175 on their site, but their applications gives adjustments in MOA, not Mils. Thanks!

Ballistic AE is what I use, it used to be called ballistic FTE but they changed the name in one of the updates. I have it on an iPhone. I think others use shooter on android phones.

Hay all CAPRC members
Thanks for all the hard work (answering all our noob questions) setting up, BBQing etc.
It was a lot of fun today and reaffirming that what you guys have taught us works, proven by us making the hits.
Ive got to admit though it started off a bit rough for most of us this morning till Snappy showed up and
started barking WTF have you guys been doing!!! everyone started making hits after that. Got to love that.
Steven thanks the scope cover is mine I owe you a beer or two.
