You are reading it wrong bro!! better believe they are allowed.... it's 2 classes (all non magnum in one class) and .50 cal with all magnums in the other. The only time no magnums are allowed is at the 600yd night matches. Hope I can make itSeth8541 wrote:

Re: Desert MArksman 1000 yard Match
Oh Bob... Ever so humble.... So the match was full with 50 shooters and 2 standbys with me being one of them. Seth was a no show? What happened dude. You were in. Anyway with him not showing I was able to get into the match instead of being one of the line RSO's. Weather was perfect starting out in the high 40's/low 50's. Wind at the gate was gusting between 10-20 I believe from the East, but don't quote me on that. As the day wore on, the wind died down with the final relay having little to no wind and SOME PEOPLES (ahem... BOB) scores reflected that. We shot in 5 relays with the 1st 3 going to the 1 k line and getting 10 minutes on steel to confirm zero and then switching to paper for 5 rounds for a final zero confirmation for 5 minutes. After that, targets are pulled, patched and placed back up. Shooters get 30 minutes for 25 rounds at 1k for score. Broke for lunch about 11:30 and and then back on the line by 12:30. A little confusion on the 4th relay looking for a missing shooter. Showed up for the AM brief, but never showed up for the 4th relay. That delayed the start by about 30 minutes. Anyway, relays 4 and 5 shot and then back to the meeting point for score tallying and awards. Max score is 250/25x. There are 2 classes. Magnum's and Non Magnums and awards for the top 3 in each.....
Well, turns out that our own Robert Baracas, (Robert Hode) won the non magnum class with a PERFECT SCORE OF 250 AND EITHER 14 OR 17X. According to match director Brad Kahn this has never been done in the non-magnum class. Bob was shooting his R3 (Randall R. Rausch built rifle, Sierra 142's and I am not sure on the load). 2nd place was a tie at 247/10x between Mark Edgren and another shooter who I did not know. 1st place in the magnum class was Steve Miller. I met him at his 1st match in October at Desert Marksman where he took 3rd and now he took 1st with a score of 249/(don't know x count). He was shooting a 338WM.
I finished better than I have ever done before here. 235/3x. I am still a die hard shooting a 308. I was in the 9th lane and only had the close flag for reference, so I was at a disadvantage, but I managed to keep all rounds on the paper and never scored lower than an 8, but had too many 9's to stay in the running.
Also present were Henry Song, I believe he shot a 244 and several other people that I know from various shoots/matches. Ernesto and Solomon.
Folks, if you want to shoot 1k, this is the match to do it at in So. Cal. Friendly, laid back. Excellent venue and LOCAL. What more can I say. Also, if I may, I would like to give a plug for the membership of the Desert Marksman Rifle and Pistol Club. Membership is $100.00 for the 1st year and $70.00 there after. That gets you 24/7 access to a wonderful private range that you can do just about anything there. It is worth it.
Hope to see everyone out at matches....

A good time. Conditions very favorable throughout the whole day.

Re: Desert MArksman 1000 yard Match
This was an awesome event. My first time shooting past 600 yds. The crowed was so friendly and easy going. Congrats to Bob again. I highly recommend going to the next one!
I shot on the first relay (target 10). The wind was a big factor me. I had 1.1 mil dialed on my scope and made additional corrections as wind conditions changed.
Riffle:
6.5 Creedmoor
Load:
140 A-Max/ Seated 2.815
3X Horndy Brass/ fully processed.
41.9 H4350
210m
Conditions:
DA = 4300
8.6 Mils on my PH 5-25
Wind... Lots where I was shooting

Actually, I was taking my time trying to shoot in the same conditions all the time. The flag I was using was only at about 400 yards, so really close. I ended up rushing my shots at the end and my scores reflected it...

Steven, could you see the mirage? Personally, I would shoot 1 round every 30 seconds to try and get a feeling for my wind reading skills.

Some of the time, the targets weren't pulled and scored that fast.264Charlie wrote:Steven, could you see the mirage? Personally, I would shoot 1 round every 30 seconds to try and get a feeling for my wind reading skills.
