That's why the fastest 300 took so long and we ended up shooting day stages at night. He couldn't pull out the individual timers in the rain. I think that's the main issue here. All of the electronics and such don't like the rain. On such a tight time schedule as Angeles requires, one stage like that, or one light or strobe or whatever goes down due to rain, it turns into a shit show with multiple stages not being completed. While I'm disappointed, I understand it.

No excuse for not being prepared for weather. It's 2012 almost, you can track the weather almost 10 days out.
In the 6 years I have been doing this, we called off one match. The one you guys came up to because it became unsafe in the pits. 2x4s on the target holders were snapping due to a strong head wind.
As for the fast dot drill stuff. It would of been just as easy to walk down the line with a shot timer and shot 1 guy at a time. 60 second par time. Record the time on the last shot fired per person.
You had 30 to 40 shooters make arrangments to shoot this weekend, go through whatever they had to go through to prepare for a match, and you guys didn't prepare for wet weather? in the winter? Really? That's bullshit if you ask me. If there was that big of a concern about weather, maybe you should have put a disclaimer out that the match will be called if it's wet.
My bad for rallying the troops for this event, I promise it won't happen again.

Well I'm not as critical as Vu, but there's an accepted expectation that these events run rain or shine unless otherwise noted. Competitors sign up and sacrifice time and opportunities to attend these events. We do it not only to compete, or even to have a turn at the prize table.. but to support the club and sport.
And for the people coming from NorCal or Vegas, they probably don't even know the event is cancelled unless they're monitoring this thread.
I believe one guy is coming from the Vegas crew. Somebody should let him know.

Henry,
You are a part of the "club leadership", yet don't know jack?
Well, please pick one; are you a sheep, or just an incompetent leader? Aren't you a board member? So which one is it Herny, are you a leader, or just a pawn.
And you're right, I don't know you. Never seen you at any events or big matches, don't even know if you actually shoot or just one of these internet trigger pullers. And honestly, I don't give a rat's ass.
And yes, I am a lil more critical than Jason is because it's BS to have 35 guys, almost HALF are nor cal shooters, make arrangements to be down there for a match, to only have it canceled due to chance of rain on the day AFTER the match.
Some guys took time off work, unpaid. Some guys moved things around with their families. Some guys was going to miss their GFs kid last soccer game of the season (which I got some heat for), and for what? For you guys to pop chute?
As for what I know, it's pretty obvious that I know a lot more than some of the leadership around these parts.

Henry,
I am not good with faces and names...so if we have met, I apologize for not remembering.
Brad: No need to call me, please post what you have to say right here. However, if you are going to tell me that 20% of rain on Saturday is what cause this match to be cancelled. Don't waste your time, I am not trying to hear that nonsense.
Randall: Surprised the man behind this whole club has yet to chime in on this? After all the bad ass ideas and you telling me how smooth shit will be at the Vegas match? 20 man crew, 7 stages of fire at a time..blah blah blah.
11 stages, 60 rounds, 35 to 40 shooters, in 3.5 hours. I was freaking impressed and was looking forward to learning on how that might be done. Considering it takes us about 5 to 6 hours to get through a steel match with 30 guys, in the day time, with 2 stages going at a time.

20% precipitation equates to less than 20% chance of rain. Might as well call it clear skies!

I didn't vote to cancel it.
I have a schedule and a crew that I am still confident would have worked.
The key was 4 areas of operation, (dividing 40 shooters into 4 groups, 10 shooters in each area), 3 different stages being fired in each area except 1 area would only have 1 stage.
2 RO's, 2 spotters, 2 shooter wranglers and 2 scoring people per area allows 1 single shooter stage and 2 multi shooter paper stages to be fired in each area by 10 shooters in 45 minutes.
Every 45 minutes, all 4 groups rotate.
It's staff intensive, but I had 29 volunteers ready to make it happen.
I'm not afraid to try something big and possibly fail.
My parents taught me that you don't know what you can acomplish until you try it.

Tomorrow I have a conference call with the heads of the NRA HP Committee to discuss the potential of F-Tactical in F-Class. This would be HUGE for the sport of F-Class and give us guys that like our tac rigs another place to compete, and be ranked across the country. Hoping that goes well.

I never said anything about a COF.
I respect the fact that we do things by vote.
You can't just go off and do things on your own when you are working as part of a group.
That's sorta a key fundamental of doing things by vote...

Ok, a bunch of guys are saying they just want to shoot and we have done a bunch of prep.
We still have the range available to us as well.
We had a short meeting tonight and the consensus was that since a bunch of people want to shoot, we should still have a shoot.
So when we voted to cancel the match, the concerns were about the rain and the electronics, about how tight the schedule will be, about mobility on the range if it's muddy, about the liability we are exposed to with generators and AC powered lighting etc...
Brad and I were out at angeles again tonight doing more target tests and we are happy with what we were seeing.
Now we need to really run a bunch of shooters through a few stages on the targets and see if everything survives.
AC power has been eliminated, all battery powered lighting now, which means they can all be bagged to protect them from rain.
So let's do this low key.
5-6 stages.
Show up by 5pm to sign in.
Shooting starts at 6pm.
Bring 40 rounds.
No prizes, no bbq, no shirts, no drama, just shooting for bragging rights.
No stress that if something fails, we have to scrap stages.
No concerns about not running a perfect match for the out-of-town folks etc.
See you there...

Do the sponsors expect their sponsorships to be in play? I've never run a match so I'm unfamiliar with the logistics. I can only assume they expect their products to be awarded at a specific venue.

I would hope the product would be sent back to the sponsors. Bottom line is, sponsors are buying advertisement with their donations. What did this event advertise except, a big fat CF. Shit like this is what makes getting sponsorship for major events like TPRC, TBRC, and other national level venues.

The checks that we have received will be returned, they have not been deposited.
Just come out and shoot Saturday night for free. We have the range and targets need to be tested.
As far as I know, we are the only club that gets to use the high power range at night, so take advantage of this opportunity.
