Tannerite

Post by Gnzrme »

Ok, so I am up in Big Bear and we went shooting yesterday...bought 45 plastic golf balls from wally world and taped up all the holes in them and left one hole....Filled to the top with tannerite (if you do not know what that is, google it) and then taped over...laid out on the range and shot at with 223 and 308....I did get an explosion, but I was very disappointed in the force/sound....I ended up shooting a half pound just to see what I would get and that seemed more like what I recall...I mixed up a half pound and placed about 1/2 or 1/4 of a pound in the back of a standard clay and taped that up and that got a flash, but not alot of noise....I followed the mixing instructions correctly...1 scoop of accelerant to the powder and mixed well....Did I get a bum batch or should I have packed the scoop tighter...maybe it wasnt enough accelerant....

Suggestions....Yes, I do have one video of the half pound, but give me a while to figure out how to post it plus wireless is so-so up here...

I would think that the 1/2# canisters are more air tight then taping up a clay. I think that might make it noisier then the tape. When I was a kid we used to make black powder charges in toilet paper tubes and taped them shut. They were fun but we learned to get better results with tupper wear!

Nathan, I thought about getting some black powder and making something out of that, but I wasn't sure if it would explode with a FMJBT bullet....Plus not to mention the fire danger up here..... :o

LOL. Might want to put it into a metal tin. Or using tracers!! But defiantly a fire hazard. We wouldnt shoot the ones we made as kids we put fuses in them and ran like hell. Biggest one we did was a full pound of black powder in a 2 inch pvc pipe. That was some fun times!!!

You might want to make sure you mix it very thoroughly? When I use it its always in the 1/4lb or 1/2lb containers it comes in whatever size they are, and it always make a big 'ol boom. I guess it could be possible you have a faulty batch.

I have never put it in another container though except for a gallon milk jug(which was awesome).

We were shooting 14lb cans of the stuff today. Amazing what that will do to large metal pieces of desert trash. :D

Here's the best one and the only one I bothered to put on youtube. The item at the top right is a 33" or so tire that blew about 200 ft. Doesn't look like much but that's about 50lbs of crap on top.
