Using JBM

Post by HeathenRifleman »

So I'm using JBM to start gathering data on my drops. What are some other fields I should be using to get my data more precise. The highlighted fields are the only ones I entered anything into.

This is the drops it gave me. I think it's pretty good in the balpark. Should I invest in a little kestrel or is it not necessary? I'm thinking it's not necessary. Just a little range book I'm thinking. So when I go out to the range and start hitting targets based on these drops or modifications of them just keep those and write them down in some kind of range book. I know this is dumb shit but if I had a range in my back yard I would just go out and do it but since the range isn't in my backyard it makes sense to get some advice before making the drive!

Have you read this yet?

You will need absolute pressure and temperature in order to have truly accurate dope.
It even changes throughout the day so check it every hour or so or whenever you notice a weather change like sudden cooling down from a big cloud moving into your area of operation.

Ok, after I read the dope thread and went to the range I actually got my drops dialed in and I was able to hit everything I shot at! Maybe this thread is unnecessary.

The angeles steel is very large.
You will find that you will further refine your dope when you shoot smaller targets.
For example, when I shoot at angeles, I usually shoot at small rocks at 400 and 600yds after checking my 100yd zero.
If you want to shoot steel, shoot the front leg of the small pig at 600yds.
That's about 4" wide which is a good sized target to gather dope on at that distance.

Hmm.....by hitting what I aimed at, I meant I was hitting all of the 4 foot tall ones! lol yeah maybe I should aim at something smaller. I was aiming for the center though!

If you are shooting the 600 yard round plate a ASR this is it next to a 1moa plate.

No, what would be awesome was if I could've hit it today. I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn today but it turns out that I was off by a full rev on my elevation. CHECK YOUR SCOPE... Argh....

Yes.
The red plates are the ones that 50 caliber guys are allowed to shoot at.
That plate is 1.5" thick steel.

holy hell that target is big! I tried shooting the leg on the big black pig at 600 but I couldn't really tell where I was hitting when I did hit it. I wish they had some smaller targets out there.
