Day 1.

Today was focused on the basics, nothing new and revolutionary but the key to shooting well . Spending 8 hrs of class room, dry firing and a little bit of shooting will reinforce what you don't know. Jacob has a great way of explaining things, he really is a great instructor. All said and done I highly recommend the class to anyone that can attend.

My Jewell trigger died on the line today, not fun. Vu really stepped up and helped me diagnose the issue and get the new trigger in the gun. Thanks Vu.

I have always wondered what Jacob's background was... Did he talk about that... Is the class full? And whats this about your trigger taking a dump? I just bought a jewel trigger, as I was getting tired of the bolt release on the timmey jamming up...

Jacob did not tell us his background info. He did talk about some of the footage and tests RO has done in regards to fundamentals and the results down range. I think they want instructor to shooter of three to one, if so the class is full at 12. Jewell just died, something is broken inside. Was talking with Jacob about it and he says the AI triggers are the mort reliable. For the 700 it's factory, Timney then Jewell. Lot's of Jewell triggers are sold. I am sure it will serve you well. Just have a spare if you need it.

Every time I have seen people lift their head, I ask them if they hunt.
In almost every case, the answer was yes.

Recreational shooters don't have the "did I get it?" instinct.

Class is actually lite this year, they were hoping for 20, but 3 - 5 dropped out last minute. 12 students with 3 instructors is a great ratio. Closest a lot will get to 1 on 1 instruction without paying for 1 on 1 rates.

As for Jacob's background, I've never really asked or wondered to be honest. To me, results down range is what matters. It was obvious students were improving comparing the morning eval targets to the afternoon 20 round 1/2 dot drill. All I know is that a lot of 3 lettered groups train at RO time after time so they must be doing something right.

By the way Steve, I confirmed that he was actually hanging upside down in that picture you posted a while back.........

Anyways, back on the range in 2 hours. Hopefully I won't have to take a file to Charlie's rig today.

Of course, but since most hunting shots are taken from semi-unsupported positions with lighter weight guns, they tend to jump off target too much to see the impact.

Day 2:


200 - 1000 yard Prone shooting. Lot's of wind coaching and corrections of fundamentals. After lunch we returned to the 200 and 300 yard line for some positionl work. Weakside siting at 200 anyone? Ask Vu how well I did.

Sadly true. I was the last guy on the line trying to make that shoot. I took 6 rounds to hit the 20 x 30 target.

Day 3.

1000 yard cold bore in 2 - 5 MPH winds, 1200 DA difference from yesterday. The class all did well , things are starting to pay off for everyone. We shot 15 rounds or so at 1000, 900 and 800. BIG THANKS TO NCPPRC FOR PULLING PITS. The whole group was shooting well, lots of 10 and x ring shots. We did not just shoot prone, Jacob had us shoot off a stool with only the front of the stock touching, no rear support. It really is all about natural point of aim. Many shooters made the hit.

Jacob does not shoot much during the day but he did pick up someones 223 and make a seated hit at 1k first try. Extremely impressive for cold shooter and a random gun and hold.

After shooting we did some ranging exercises. I learned the math is much more accurate than a Mildot Master. The Mildot Master will get you close but in match would bring a calculator. We also had the chance to range a warm body walking at distance. This a extremely hard, people never stop moving. After lunch we went to the steal range and shot a 20 dot drill (standing between shots). They are hard, I have yet to clean one. Really shows your mistakes. We spent the reminder of the day working on steal, dialing vs holding and improvised positions.

After the 3rd day I am really starting to see the results downrange and could not be happier with the class.

Day 4.

A lot of shooting today on the 550 range. movers, weak side, some more weak side, and barricades. I really enjoyed the barricade information. My shoots greatly improved.

5 days plus I am shooting the sac practice and match.

I gathered 550pc of brass and loaded 500 rounds with 123 @ 2950. I sent Ryan the 2nd 50 and my dies to try out so I had to order 150 rounds for the weekend from Grafs.

Day 5,

This was ran like a match to put some stress on the shooters. Fun day that combined positional, baracadies, movers and general steel shooting. All and all the PR1 & PR2 class was a lot of fun. I hope I get to attend a PR3 class soon.
