CaPRC match at Desert Marksman 8/27/11 CANCELLED

Post by AR15barrels »

Due to unknown reasons, Desert Marksman has rescinded their offer of having Caprc put on this match.
See the full discussion at the end of this thread.

The California Precision Rifle Club is proud to announce our first match at Desert Marksman will be Saturday August 27th.
For details about Desert Marksman, see their website: http://www.dmrpc.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

We have been invited by the Desert Marksman Tactical Rifle crew to put on a match as an example of how we could possibly run matches in the future.
This will be a 2 gun match so bring a precision rifle and a semi-auto carbine.
The stages will tend to be more positional and closer, but no less challenging than you have come to expect of our matches.
We will do our best to design the stages so that either gun can be used on all stages, but there will be stages that are more appropriate to the rifle or the carbine.
If you don't have a carbine, don't worry as there will most likely be someone that you can borrow one from. Just bring some 223 ammo.

Signups start at 8:00am and shooting should start at 9:30am.
Please arrive no later than 8:45am to complete your waivers, sign-in and get assigned your shooter number.
This match will be a different format than our Angeles matches as we will now have full control of the range.
This will allow for us to move around more and you can expect the course of fire to take full advantage of this.

Match fee is $20 for Caprc members or $30 for non members.
We should finish up by 3pm.
Bring 50 rounds of match grade ammo for the rifle and 60 rounds for the carbine.
Bring a sling for the carbine in case you have to move with both rifles.
Be prepared to shoot as close as 5ft and as far as 600yds.
Be prepared to shoot from standing, kneeling, seated, prone and other improvised postions.
Bring a backpack to shoot off of for stages that don't allow a bipod.

This match is open to bolt action and semi-auto rifles from 223 up through 308.
Bipods, slings, shooting mats and rear bags are allowed and recommended.
Chamber flags are mandatory and are available from the club if needed.

We are looking for non-shooting helpers to spot and score as usual. Shooters will also be asked to help out with this if needed.
Please RSVP by posting something in this thread such as "I am in" or "I will be there" as we will ignore "maybe" or "if" RSVP's.
If you RSVP and later figure out that you can't come, please post that as well so we can keep the RSVP list current.

The following people have acceptably RSVP'd as shooters:

Is the upper limit for bore size or power?

Let me rephrase that: Will Iron sites be a big dissadvantage? When you say "Carbine" stage, are we talking IDPA cardboard targets within 200 yards, or something a 4x scope would help a whole lot?

Anyone got an actual address for the range? I'm trying to figure the best way up from San Diego (5 or 15N) and how long the drive will be.

I know that the 1st time I tried to find this range, I kept getting lost... When you exit Angeles Forest Highway, it branches off into 2 exits. You want to take the one to the right... When you get to the stop sign at the bottom of the exit, stayin the left lane. You will be looking out onto Sierra Highway. You need to cross over Sierra highway onto the other side to get onto Angeles Forest Highway... I kept thinking that Sierra Highway was part of Angeles Forest Highway... ( I know, I needed to go back to bed  )

You are going down Angeles Forest Highway about 5 miles and after you go past Mt Emma Road, look for the forest Service gate on the left side of the Road.... (its the only place that you can turn left) The gate should be open and if not, just wait for the security guard to show up and just tell him that you are here for a Desert Marksman match, do not mention CaPRC, as the guard may not know about us joining in their match, though I am attending the meeting tonight and will ask the club Secretary to mention it to the security guard.

They will most likely ask you to sign a release. That may be done at the Gate or the DM Match Director. They will also record your license plate of your vehicle.

Some match ammo would be a good idea.
Most targets are 3 moa or bigger though.

That depends on if you choose to use a precision rifle for a stage with moving targets.
There will most likely be 6 stages.
You have to use a precision rifle on 3 of them and the carbine on the other 3.
It's up to you to choose which to shoot with which gun.

At least that's the idea for now...

And what's wrong with moving targets and precision rifles?

Question: can I use an AR with optic on all stages or is it mandatory to use two different rifles?

What is the mag limit for the carbine? 5 rounds?

Also, do your guys run bullet buttons? I've never shot my AR in a match before.

That's a good question....Randall, anybody, what is the reason for the 5 round rule? I shoot my old school Bushmaster (RAW) no bb here!
