so cal desert shooting?

Post by thenotoriousmo »

so im now to these forums and can say recently i have been bitten by the long range bug, but the problem is that where is there a place that i can go stretch my rifles legs a little. i head out to angeles but as much fun as shooting the those steel pigs are at 600, i am looking for a little bit more. now im not naive enough that everyone will be posting there "super secret" spot here, but if i can get an idea and scout my own out that would be amazing. or if anyone is braving the heat and wouldnt mind a tag along that would be even better!

anyone willing to share??

pretty much north of the 58 and the 40 and your're GTG. Just steer clear of FT Irwin and Death Valley Natl. Park.

I've got a super secret spot in Corona you're welcome to shoot at with us sometime.

as much as i hate to admit it, im pleasantly surprised as well. but just a random question for shooting off in the blm land though... how "assault weapon" and 30 round mag friendly are they out there as i get my mags from work and have all assault weapon permit for my AR?

If you are "getting your mags from work", then you are either LEO or MIL, if you are using a RAW with all the ppwk, then there should be no problems. We used to shoot on BLM land and we never saw the Ranger, but I don't think that it would be a problem unless you are doing something stupid...

I'm in Chino and always looking for a good place to shoot. I got a few buddies that I go to the desert with but driving 1.5 hours each way gets old.

God shoots a Remington 700, drives a Chevy Truck and carries a Glock 19.

i feel the same way about the distance. but the way i am starting to look at it is that its almost 2 hours to get to asr and just about the same to the piru range, why not just go maybe 30 more mins, have a little fun off roading in my truck to get there and go shoot with out any hassles.

James, I'm up in Fontana and would be interested in joining you guys once I get a rifle put back together. Is it truly 4x4 only or will a truck with decent ground clearance work? I have a Chevy 2500 that will get through most any rut but it's only two wheel drive.

ETA: If it helps any, I have a decent assortment of steel targets to destroy and a 5 gal water cooler.

I've lived in Palmdale, Tehachapi and I'm now back in Bakersfield. Anyone this far north do LR work? New to this forum and would love to stretch some rounds out. Been way too hot lately to do much but work some new hand loads up. I've done a decent amount of shooting in the desert in these areas (from the Tehachapi Sportsman's club to the Rosamond Granite construction quarry) but am looking to have some fun a bit closer to home. Any body interested?

Hell! I am in San Diego! I would KILL to shoot anything past 600 yards. If anyone is interested in haveing someone tag along please let me know. Every time I drive to ASR its a 2.5 hr drive for me or longer. Leaving SD at 4:15am is getting to be a pain. Worth it but kinda annoying on the way back. Sure Pala is 30 miniutes from my house but they are only open to recreational shooting during the week. My job makes it difficult to take time off during the weekdays!

You need to start a line of Viperskins for the Prius...an eco friendly, tactical Prius. :o
Make sure you include a pic rail to mount off road lights and a winch!
