2011 TBRC AAR
The 2011 5th Annual NorCal TBRC is now in the books. We had 66 competitors battle over 2 days in roughly a 200 round count course of fire.
I would like to thank all the competitors that traveled from near and far to make this year’s match. It’s an honor having everyone with us this past weekend, and we hope everyone enjoyed themselves as much as we did putting on this event. Our range crew truly appreciates everyone being safe, with no major safety issues needing to be addressed.
I believe our prize table spoke for itself, and all I can say is thank you to the generous sponsors we had support this year’s NorCal TBRC. After some last minute shipments, I believed the prize table was in the arena of $55,000.00 +.
Our sponsors put enough out there for all the competitors and range crew to go through twice, and then some. Everyone walked away with something nice no matter where they finished. Due to a few sponsors jumping on board last minute, I will have to post the complete list tomorrow. CS Tactical as the majority of them listed on the TBRC highlight thread. Once again, I would like thank our sponsors on behalf of NCPPRC for their support. Out event would not be what it is without your support.
And who can forget our “red shirt brigade”. 35 men and women of NCPPRC worked very hard over the last 4 days, setting up, putting on, and tearing down to make everything flow smoothly for our 66 competitors. They make my job so easy, it’s ridiculous. I pretty much cruised around all weekend in a golf cart visiting with competitors, and make sure things were flowing according to schedule. Thank you guys for all your hard work and dedication!
Day 1:
Alpha and Bravo Squad was assigned to the 1K Range. Alpha was shooting first, with Bravo shooting 2nd relay.
Charlie and Delta was assigned to the Steel Range.
We had a weather system move in on Saturday which turned what was already a challenging Course of Fire into something out of a nightmare for quite a few shooters. Our COFs are designed so that our top level competitors should be around 70% area, however by the end of the day on Saturday; it was more like 50% or less due to weather conditions.
A lot of people talk about high winds at their local range, but Sac Valley is a hard range to shoot in windy conditions due to the hilly terrain. Scores on day one reflected the conditions that everyone had to shoot in. By the time everyone was shooting the winds were blowing 25 to 30mph+, then the rain came. Most of us blame the crews out of Washington and Oklahoma for the bad weather.
We had a stage that was thrown out due to me not thinking about cross fires @ 100yards. George Gardner was kind enough to bring up a few issues he saw only after 6 shooters shot the stage. After thinking about the options, I decided to scrap the stage. Next year I will figure out how to run that stage properly.
We ended the day with a catered BBQ from Sierra Smoke House which everyone seemed to enjoy after a rough day on the range.
Day 2:
The squads flip flopped ranges.
Talk about a complete change in weather conditions, it was sunny with VERY light winds. David Skit dominated the 1K range with a 647 4X out of 830pts possible. 36 rounds were fired from 800 to 1Kyards. Total round count for the 1K range was 79 rounds.
On the steel range, the Alpha Squad and Bravo squad went to work taking advantage of the great shooting conditions. All the competitors knew that Sunday would be the day to either make ground, or extend their lead do to the weather conditions on the first day. Some were playing catch up, and some were putting it in high gear.
After all the rounds were down range, Francis “The Animal” took home the win by shooting an 886.12 on the steel range. I’ll get exact numbers in the next few days but I believe he shot near the 80% range of the possible score.
Congrats to Francis on his 2nd TBRC win. Francis took home first place at the 2009 TBRC as well. He is the first shooter to win a 2nd TBRC in our club’s history.

Re: 2011 TBRC AAR
Ding ding...Brian is correct.
Points Ticking Away is one of the stages we use to help break things up to keep ties from happening.
7 targets. Multiple ranges, all must be hit in alloted time and round count in the correct order.
10pts per hit, and a time bonus if shot clean. Par time - the time it took you to clean the stage. Francis railed all 7 in under 43 seconds with 1 miss.

Thanks Nate.. the scope had a major shift some time between fridays zero session and saturdays cold bore. It took me a while to walk it back in and rezeroing the knobs on the 600yd line isn't something i am used to doingIloveguns wrote:Dude James way to show up!! Even with a bum scope you made it happen! Due to Randall talking shit on my A game i decided to go get it back from the hoe from the night before and things worked well sunday. I can't say the scope gave me any problems after the first big shift on saturday morning. I actually finished 2nd overall behind Francis on the steel portion

Thanks a ton to everyone that helped run this match, I've never had more fun on a firing line. Even doing as poorly as I did. Time to practice a lot of positional, and get lots of time shooting in wind, hopefully then I wont embarrass myself next time.

Re: 2011 TBRC AAR
Firstly a big THANK YOU to Vu, NCPPRC, Range Officers & all the sponsors. Guy we really should support the companies that make events like this happen.
As always Vu and crew ran a event that others strive to equal, well done. It was awesome to shoot next to Moon (GA rifle builder) and Scout (Vortex) and BS with them all day.
The COF was challenging but did not have any pointless stages like side-prone. I blew the first day bad finishing 62nd on 1k line. I was able to pull it together on the 2nd day steel lines finishing 14th in steel and 34th overall. You can't have bad days when only 171 points separate 20th - 2nd. Then you have Francis that was 222 points above first, that dude is on a whole other level. Some other interesting notes is Ryan only beat George by a fraction of a second and 7 of the top 10 shot 6mms but only 17% of total shooters.
Connor, thats for driving man and it was funny to see you have the exact same response I had last year. Wow, this shit is a whole new level of shooting. To give everyone an idea I held 2.2 mils left for my first shot on the 1k line and made the hit, my second
.2 right and made the hit... That the kind of wind you deal with at Sac. On the steel range I don't think I even amid at center mass of a target all day.
Thanks again NCPPRC you guys are amazing club.

Charlie,
Thank you for the kind words. It was a pleasure having you guys up here. I am glad you guys had a great time.
I was really glad to give James that bad ass Surefire knife, I knew he wanted one bad. There are only 7 in the world with that engraving, and James owns one of them.
Ryan came pimp hand strong as well in 9th.
Brad showing the youngins that the old man can still pull the trigger came in 14th over all. By the end of the first day, he was 4th.
I think Conner's head is still spinning. =) Don't worry Conner, that is almost a standard SOP for everyone that shoots the TBRC the first time. A true 200round COF over 2 days will even fry top level shooters, except The Animal. I still think he is a robot. TBRCs are marathons, you have to be consistant throughout the event to place well.
And + 1 on supporting those that support the game. The prize table was crazy this year! Competitors and Range crew going through twice, and then some. You guys know who supported the match, try to think of those company when spending those hard earned dollars.
Vu
PS...and it's never about winning. It's about the memories and good times shooting with you friends. Winning is great, but not if you have a shitty time doing it.

Wow. What a weekend. Vu, Shawn and crew once again put on a phenomenal match. Thank you guys for all of the time and hard work. Its amazing to see the number of volunteers, many of them TOP LEVEL shooters themselves, donate their weekend to helping run this match. Thanks again.
The conditions were a bitch this year. I had a tough time the first day. The second day was probably my worst showing ever on a steel range. To come out with a 9th place finish was a huge surprise based on how I felt about my performance. James was coming on strong on day 2 steel. He was shooting fast AND accurately, which put him on top. Way to go James. Now you've set the bar for yourself.
Brad kicked some ass as well. If he keeps this up, he'll break into the top 10 by next year. And it was a blast having him out with us Friday. I was so impressed to see him up after Jeopardy was over.
Thanks for the tequila Grandpa...that started the night off right!
Francis is an absolute machine. I love getting to shoot with him, talk about not only shooting, stages and strategy, but about life in general. He's a great competitor with a great attitude.
The prize table was flat unbelievable. From rifles to scopes, stocks, barrels...the generosity was amazing. I know I'll be spending my money accordingly.

Re: 2011 TBRC AAR
BIG THANK YOU VU & SHAWN!!! Holy cow, do you guys put on a top rate show! All the Norcal Crew were simply the nicest group of guys to shoot with. Honestly, that match could not have been more fun.
Charlie is right about the COF was perfect for testing our tactical rifle skills with challenging scenarios and no silly match gimmicks. The wind was really challenging the Saturday, I learned a bunch about mirage and changing holds. Sunday was a blast, no bad wind on the 1k and lots of hits on paper.
Congratulations to James, Ryan and Brad!!! You guys kicked ass, it was really good to see our teammates up there grabbing top slots. The prize table was nuts with all the high end gear up for grabs. I snagged a sweet pair of Seekins rings and a TAB mat (will be sending thank you's to Glenn and TAB tomorrow).
And Vu is right, it's not about how you finish but who you shoot with-- man, I had a great time with you guys this weekend. Hanging out and shooting with all of you gents was a blast.

If you have not shot at sac it will not mean anything to you. But we had no shots at 100 and almost all targets are under 2MOA. I don't think anything was "hell" just fun stages that if you shot well you made points. Many if shot poor cost you points. Lots and lots of stuff had to be shot is less than ideal positions.Chevroletkid88 wrote:Does anyone have a COF to post up? I wanna see what kind of hell you all went through

some of the best times this weekend were just hanging out with you guys! I was happy as hell to see Grandpa out with us on friday night. The ol man has a little spunk left in him!! We all go up to shoot the match and do our best... but its the stuff that we don't prepare ourselves for weeks ahead of time that ends up being just as fun as the match itself that seals up a great weekend. I'm so glad our group is full of some really cool and fun people. You guys always help make a good thing better!
The NorCal guys are a class act. Some really nice people that i look forward to hanging with every time we go up there. They put so much into this that its hard to believe. Putting down their own rifles to run a match of this caliber and having to work through the sweat and frustrations just to show us a good time says a LOT about the kind of people they are. THANK YOU ALL OF NORCAL!!! and THANK YOU VU for busting your balls all year long to make this happen
and for my knife!
BTW Charlie... congrats on a sweet comeback sunday. Just think if you wouldn't have "fucked up" on your dope from saturday man!!

To Vu and the NorCal crew, thanks for an outstanding weekend of competition and comradery. The time and dedication you put in this match
is most evidence in its quality. From the RO's to the spotters and score keepers, all were profesional an polite. The course of fire was
challenging, fair and at times humbling.(except for Francis)
This was my 2nd year at this match and I all ways leave there with good memories, and lessons learned.
And I got to shoot next to Vinny all weekend, along with a bunch of good friends who wanted to buy me lap dances
all Friday night. 8-) and keep me up past wheel of fortune.
Thanks again, and looking forward to seeing the pictures.

Lol, aint that the truth. I didn't know a damn thing about wind going into this match and just kept getting blown off target on the steel stage the first day. By the second day I was catching on and actually did pretty darn well at 800, 900, and 1000, but dropped a bunch of points on the positional stuff which kept me down to a 371 1x on paper.vu308 wrote: I think Conner's head is still spinning. =) Don't worry Conner, that is almost a standard SOP for everyone that shoots the TBRC the first time. yes sir i was...i basically matched Ryans load as best as possible.
The load is really slow @ 2865fps but it shoots well
115 Dtac w/ 43.6gr of short cut seated to 2.255 at the ogive.
the 4350 goes much faster but i wanted to match ryans wind calls. My best group at 1k this weekend measues 3"
