2-day 2-man team match/camping trip

Post by DirtRacer151 »

When- april 30th and may 1st. This is open. I just picked this weekend to see who can make it. It fits well because it doesn't collide with any CAPRC events. Much later in the year and the heat becomes an issue too. If you only can make one day then that's fine.. come out and have fun.

Who- any body willing to come have some fun.

How- everyone participating must lend a hand

What- a precision rifle match with some other random shit. Everyone must choose a partner to shoot with. You will be scored as a team. 20pts for each hit. 5pts for bonus (times or pistol/shotgun hits). Every team will be required to make at least one stage. It can be ANYTHING!! Be creative and choose something that you always wanted to do yourself. No other teams are allowed to say no. If you don't like the rules then don't shoot. If the stage you choose involves special props or targets you will be responsible for making/acquiring them. This will involve some hiking so be prepared. You may only use what you pack in. %50 of the targets will be UKD. This is where being on the same page as your team mate will be crucial. Each shooter will always have a different set of objectives.

Most importantly I just want to have fun with this. Nothing serious. We will keep score but only for bragging rights or maybe a small pool. There will hopefully be lots of campfire drinking, good bbqing, and lots of shooting.

Cost- free! Just pitch in towards the final food bill and any targets/supplies needed.

Where- barstow in the middle of BFE. Cars can make it out but be prepared to squeeze between some bushes. Its mostly hard pack flat roads. We are camping over night so be prepared. There is space for tents or you can sleep in your car.

And a bunch won't. Including me. If i tried to plan a weekend that doesnt collide with anything else then this would never happen. Let's do this guys! Its time to go have some fun and do something different.

And the weekend after that is Charlie's match in New Mexico. Anyone shooting TBRC should try to get in at least the practice day at Sac Valley that first weekend in May.

Planning around your schedule is about equal to planning around Randalls. If we wait until you guys have time then shit like this will never happen. I enjoy shooting organized matches but I honeslty have more fun just shootin in the desert with the boys like we used to do at the spot. Doing something like this would be fun for all and still bring a level of competition we don't usually get to have. One trip to sac before TBRC is enough for me. If I do shitty at TBRC then so be it. It isn't fun to get so serious about winning matches. It takes all the fun out of it for me because of the pressure to do well. Ill show up and shoot my best and just try to enjoy myself the whole time without getting stressed about performing well. That's why I do this in the first place. Its all about having fun... a team match in a fun environment sounds like LOTS of fun!!

James, this sounds like alot of fun and your right, we are shooting almost every single w/e (or so my wife says to me.... :) ) If we wait, then it will be summer... I was planning on going to Sac the w/e of this, but I could do this too.... Hmmm So many choices. If I wanted to shoot this, then I would have to pick my partner well, because I don't know shit about designing stages and although I can dance circles around med students and 1st year residents when it comes to managing patients, I am not the handiest person when it comes to building and using tools. So my choice would be a person that is handy, shoots 308 with a 155gr bullet with a MOA scope and can put up with a fat, blind, out of shape partner....

Then again, I am supposed to be leaving for Portland and then Seattle that monday at 0600...

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to do it. But there are just a few big matches that get my attention and dedication. Just before them, I'm going to prepare. Afterwards, I'm game. Trying to plan something like this while people are training up for TBRC is not smart. Its not a matter of waiting for us to have time, its a matter of timing.

As to your cavalier attitude towards preparing for a match, I can relate...though you're new nickname is Pete. I didn't practice for shit before this last TPRC, didn't sleep, stayed out late, drank too much...and had an absolute BLAST! But if you're competing in big matches to see how you realistically stack up against the competition, you're doing yourself quite a disservice not preparing adequately. If its just to have fun, thats cool too. I do it for both...most of the time.

This year I wanted to go out and support Charlie's match as well, otherwise I'd only be shooting 2 big matches. Leaves more time for the fam and other projects. Shooting in a desert get together would be awesome. Stages would be off the wall and something everyone could benefit from. I'm all for it, and that weekend may be a go for me. It really depends on the weather when we hit Sac Valley this next week.

You act like I didn't plan this for a weekend where I knew you couldn't go on purpose... LOL. I really don't care if people are training for TBRC. This is just something to have fun with. Its in no way meant to stack eachother up against the best. I would rather you go to sac so I can feel better about my own shooting.

Don't think Im not concerned with doing well at matches. I want it just as bad as anyone else. I just hate the pressure you put on yourself. I will train, I dry fire almost every night, I prep my equipment, and at the end of the day its all just gonna come down to doing what I know and not fucking up. Something that pressure doesn't help and no amount of training will help with.

I can think of a few people that train really hard all the time but come up with marginal results probably due to the stress they put on themselves to win. Sometimes you gotta say fuck it and just have fun giving it your best. If you win then great...if you don't then at least you had fun trying. Some people actually can have fun at loosing. I know that's hard for some to swallow or comprehend but it is possible.

The pressure you put on yourself is one of the biggest causes of "fuck up." The laid back approach is the best. Not only do you have more fun, but you often perform much better. And one of the reasons a match like this out in BFE would be so beneficial to a lot of shooters...not to mention a ton of fun.

Dont miss out on this one! Our spot in the desert is freaking perfect! One of the sickest places for what we do. Its not just open desert....crazy canyon shots with switchy wind....high angle shots up and down....tons of rabbits hungry for lead....as far as 1200+ yards if someone wanted to....plus just standard flat desert for normal stages....ITS PERFECT !!!!!!

James, shouldn't the course of fire be revealed only just moments before the match?

Joe will just have to come out and tell us about his ideas... in person.

It doesn't matter to me. Since most of it will be UKD there will be very little ways to plan anyway.
