newbee question

Post by rolly »

Hello,

This is my first post on this forum. I am located in SF bay area and, I would like to know where can I shoot long distance (up to 1000 yards):
a) range
b) desert area , by driving no more than 4 hours to go to the place. Also, would I need a specific permit to use my rifle on public land?

Thank you

Ncpprc shoots at Sac Valley.

In order to shoot on the sac valley 1000yd range, you will have to join one of the practice sessions or the matches.

As for open desert, you probably need to head east from Reno into the great wide open...
God shoots a Remington 700, drives a Chevy Truck and carries a Glock 19.
I don't do any of those things.

Is it legal to shoot in open desert? do I need a hunter permit (even if I do not plan to kill animals) or any kind of permit ?

Open BLM land is fine for shooting so long as its not a shotgun only zone. Call your BLM district ranger office for details. You dont need a hunting license so long as it's BLM land. You only need a hunting license to shoot in forests, but only for hunting not plinking. Basically the one shot to take an animal.

Problem is that when it warms up....it warms up. End of March till May should be just fine though

That sounds perfect. I don't want to be anywhere near Barstow after May.
