Trainer Q's

Post by K_Labs »

I'm looking for a trainer like every1 else. How close do I need to make it to my primary? Why doesn't any1 go with .17hmr? Is it the cost of ammo? Are the rimfire matches limited to .22s? The reason I ask is because the round is much more like our center fire rounds. Wouldn't that be better for training purposes? Higher velocity, more accuracy, more distance, and the pointed tip as opposed to rounded. I have a fixed 10x on my rifle now and I wanted to buy the same one for my trainer but I think that is way to much magnification. I realize that every1 buys trainers for different reasons. What if I bought the same fixed 10x scope and slapped it on a AR. Would that be a good start? I'm still up in the air on which trainer I want to buy? Definetly savage mark ii tr or similar

The 22lr ammo is cheaper and shares very similar DOPE to the .308

Rimfire matches are limited to subsonic 22 rimfire ammo to reduce target damage.
17 hmr would trash soft steel rimfire targets like crazy.
Match 22 ammo is generally all subsonic and does not damage the targets.

I don't do any of those things.

I just read this post http://www.caprc.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1695" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and tested it on an old tasco 4x15 bb gun scope and got it to focus on my monitor from my chair. What are the disadvantages to doing this to a scope? I'm thinking about jumping on another bushnell 3200 10x because they are on sale @ midway.

The 10x bushnell are not parallax adjustable and they are set at 100yds or more so they don't make good 22 scopes.

Yeah I tried the 3200m 10x and was struggling at 50 yards without the parallax...at 25 yards, forget it! Replaced it with the 4200 3-12 with parallax and that is an awesome scope for my .22
