Is anyone going to Angeles tomorrow morning?

Post by savagE »

I want to get some more experience shooting in the wind and this weather is perfect. If anyone is planning on going tomorrow let me know and we could meet up and spot for each other and such. Do you guys think it will be really busy tomorrow morning for the first 3 hours or so?

I'll be there. I won't be much help though. It'll be my second time shooting a bolt action rifle tomorrow. I seriously think I'm doing it wrong, my shoulder and my vagina hurt for a full day after my first trip with the rifle.

I'll be there with a buddy who I'm trying to get into firearms. I'll probably be wearing a black beanie and a black northface wind breaker.

Roy,

Are you loading your bipod (having your should firmly up against the buttstock)? You do not want to shoot an unbraked .308Win in free recoil (shoulder not or hardly touching) as it will come back with some momentum. Loading will make your body one with your rifle (increasing mass) so the felt recoil will be much less, than if you let the rifle accelerate into your shoulder........ OR your just a PUSSY.

I'm having trouble finding a comfortable spot to put the rifle on my shoulder. I was also getting mixed up with the whole muscular relaxation thing. I was trying to relax as best as I could but when I did, I would end up not having the rifle securely in my shoulder. I've been practicing dry fire just to find a good spot on my shoulder for the buttstock and finding the balance of relaxing and still have a good secure hold of the rifle. I'm getting 100 rounds of plinking ammo from Chris tomorrow, so I don't waste good ammo while learning the basics of just pulling the trigger.

And you know what they say, you are what you eat.

What kind of "plinking ammo" are you getting? IMO with precision rifle shooting, there is NO PLINKING. Every round downrange is either quality practice or at a match. So EVERY round needs to be a match quality round, so you can learn from every round you shoot. If you shoot "plinking ammo" you don't know if your shitty shooting is a result of your shitty technique or shitty ammo......... If you want cheap practice, get a 22lr.... never mind that can be just as expensive.... :o

To be honest, I'm not sure. He's going to be my dope man when it comes to ammo. So he's setting me up with some ammo with varying charges so I can figure out what load my rifle likes, but he's also giving me a bunch of regular ammo to shoot. Since its not possible for me to reload right now in our condo, having Chris sell me ammo is my best alternative.

I used to have a small one bedroom apartment with my lee single stage challenger press in my kitchen/dinning room. I bolted everything down to a 1"x6" plank of wood and used 2 c-clamps to secure it to a table when I used it. When not in use I would unclamp it and put it aside. Plus with AB962 around the corner you can reload your .223 and any other "pistol calibers" you may have.

We actually have space in our condo. It's just that my wife objects to working with powder in the house. I need a garage.

My press is on route, from the Graf's GB. I planning to buy a used kitchen cart on craigslist and mount to that. That way I can roll the whole thing into the closet when not needed.

Luckily, my condo has a lot of closet space.

I shoot a lot more with the 22lr than the CF's.......... The recoil is cumulative.

Just for clarity, the "plinking" ammo I sell is not crappy. I still use a Hornady bullet and Varget, I just don't worry as much about the brass and the bullets are cheaper. I've shot some really good strings with my ammo, but I still wouldn't use it in a match.
