This Savage is around $250:

This Super Sniper is $400:

http://swfa.com/SWFA-SS-10x42M-Tactical ... 53713.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

That scope focuses down to 11 yards. You can even shoot that thing at an indoor range without blur or parallax. You don't even have to pay for targets. Just get a scrap target out of the trash can, shoot a hole in it, and then shoot for the hole.

Add a hundred for a bipod. Get some cheapie rings. Add a comb. Score some spare mags. Score a loop sling. Even with all of that, you're at about a grand for a really nice rifle that costs about as much as rebarreling your 6mm Whizbang one time. And you can shoot this .22 thousands and thousands of times and never have to rebarrel.

If you already have a decent scope on your centerfire but want to upgrade to a nicer scope, toss your existing scope on the .22. It's a great excuse to score that bitchin new latest greatest super duper scope for your centerfire. It's totally guilt-free. In fact, tell yourself you're actually saving money by doing this. It may be bullshit, but it works. Or, put some of your junk for sale on the classifieds or on eBay to bankroll the new rifle. This rifle is cheap enough that it doesn't take a lot of sales to add up to a grand. Or, what about that that lonely gun that always sits in the corner of your safe and gets no love? Everyone has these pieces of shit lying around. Sell that and score a .22 rifle without going out of pocket.

johnlee wrote:In that video you posted of your Cheytac, it looks as though the scope has an adjustable objective. It seems to me that scope would be more usable with .22LR than the $200 Bushnell.

In many ways, a rimfire scope is more demanding than a centerfire scope. You need gobs of elevation if you're going to shoot at longer ranges. You need adjustable parallax to shoot at rimfire ranges from 10 to 200 yards. You're turning the knobs so often that tracking is important.

Something like this at $300 might work for you:

http://swfa.com/SWFA-SS-12x42-Tactical- ... 53714.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It's also available in 10x if you prefer.
Yes it has AO. I have it zeroed at 3x @ 25 yds, however when I zoom in at 9x my shots go way left.

I don't know what parallax is. I have to look that up.

You know when you're driving and you look down at the fuel gauge in front of you and you see a quarter tank but your wife in the passenger seat looks at the same fuel gauge and thinks the tank is empty? That's parallax error.

Set your rifle down on a table and look through the scope at something on the wall across the room. Move your eye around and you will see the crosshairs move relative to the "target" even though the rifle, scope, and object on the wall are all stationary. That's parallax error.

I dig this Falcon Menace 10x42:

I almost bought that scope for my Savage. I really like the reticle. I also like that the knobs are smaller than the ridiculously tall Abe Lincoln top hat knobs that the Super Snipers have.

In the end I went with the Super Sniper because I didn't know how close the Menace focused. Also, the warranty really matters on these shitty scopes and I figured the Super Sniper had a better warranty.

My falcon 4-14 would focus at 10yds. The warranty sucks though. Mine had to be sent back to the UK for repair.

That sucks.

I'm not sure the Super Snipers are much better though. I'm already on my second Super Sniper. The first one landed a few weeks ago and I was all jazzed and playing with it. Then I noticed there was an optical flaw in the scope. At 3x, there were visible what look like air bubbles or water droplets at the very top. This disappeared at 4x and above. SWFA replaced the scope without issue and paid shipping both ways and I had a new scope in a week, so I guess I really can't complain.

I guess when you play with shitty scopes, stuff like this is to be expected.

There is one standing stage, 10 shots.
There are other stages where standing is an option, but not required.
There is a small amount of running, perhaps 20yds in one stage.

Dammit I'm out - daughter in law has to work tomorrow so they're celebrating my grandson's birthday on Sunday. My presence has been commanded by three generations of Erwins.
As I've gotten older I thought I was gaining patience, then I realized I simply don't give a shit.

LOL the birthday boy is turning 7 so give it a couple of years. He has his Grandpa's love of guns and I have it on good authority that Santa may have a Chipmunk in his bag for him this year.

This was an awesome match.

Placed last which was fine but totally had fun and can't wait for the next match.

I'll bring something lighter next time to shoot.

I'm uploading the vids right now.

Thanks to all who coordinated and made it happen.

Thanks to Randall, Keith, and Mike for the great match.

Being in the sun day wasted me. I dropped into bed as soon as I got back and took a four-hour nap.

What would you use for a shotgun? Snake shot? :wink:

To be perfectly honest though I'd love to add a pistol stage to one of our monthlies, especially since we get the big bay when we use the Eagle's nest.
Either that or see if we can convince Rich at WEGC to do a precision 3 gun match with PBR style stages instead of carbine, it would take a lot of work but it'd be really fun.

Anybody have a link somewhere to the targets we used for the Appleseed evolutions that we did? Can't find it.

Also were those Appleseed tests' par times for a semi-auto?

I found them onthe web somewhere, you can pull them off my web site. While the links are open, please dont hotlink to them or spread them around:

http://members.dslextreme.com/users/mws ... ge%201.PDF" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://members.dslextreme.com/users/mws ... ge%202.PDF" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://members.dslextreme.com/users/mws ... ge%203.PDF" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The times are the same for any rifle, naturally its easier with a semi auto. We did change up the procedures for when when mag changes were required but that effect much.
