CAPRC rimfire match 9-8-13

Post by AR15barrels »

The California Precision Rifle Club is proud to announce that our next Tactical Precision Rimfire match will be Sunday September 8th at the Angeles Ranges.
For details about the Angeles Ranges, see their website: http://www.angelesranges.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Image

Signups start at 8:30am and shooting should start at 9am.
This month we will be shooting on the private "Fort Angeles" range. From the main parking lot, take the road on the left, go past the Gun/Reloading store, it is the first range on the right side of the road. Park in the dirt on the side of the road, or in the main parking lot and walk in.
Please arrive no later than 8:30am to complete your waivers, sign-in and get assigned your shooter numbers. Your shooters number is also your position on the line so please lineup accordingly. Please note that we will be in the sun all match (no overhead cover) unless people can coordinate to bring shade covers, bring fluids to drink and sunscreen, it probably will be a hot one. Also, the entire range is dirt, be sure to bring a shooting mat, moving blanket, or other ground cover if you don't want to lay in the dirt all day.

Match fee is $20 for Caprc members or $30 for non members.
We will finish by 1-2pm but we have the range for the day so a BBQ and practice session is also possible.
Bring 100 rounds of ammo minimum, suggest 150-200 rounds as you will have time to confirm your zero.
Be prepared to shoot as close as 10yds and as far as 100yds.
Be prepared to shoot from standing, kneeling, seated, prone and other improvised positions.

This match is open to bolt action and semi-auto rimfire rifles in .22 lr caliber only.
No Hyper velocity ammo, match grade target ammo recommended.
Bipods, slings, shooting mats and rear bags are allowed and recommended.
Chamber flags are mandatory and are available from the club if needed. Observers are welcome!
Line helpers are always needed! If you are planning on attending to just watch and not shoot, please volunteer to be a line helper. Duties may include: Helping stapling and placing targets, keeping score, and spotting. Its a great way to get up and close to the action and see whats its all about.

Image

Line helper RSVP's will be accepted anytime.
CaPRC Member RSVP's will be accepted anytime.
Non-Member RSVP's will be accepted after 6pm on Sunday September 1st.

Please RSVP by posting something very definite in this thread such as "I am in to shoot" or "I will be there" as we will ignore "maybe" or "if" RSVP's.
If you RSVP and later figure out that you can't come, please post that as well so we can keep the RSVP list current.
Please RSVP as soon as possible so we can ensure we print out enough targets.
Walk-ons will be accommodated if we have enough targets.

The following people have RSVP'd:

Just don't do what I did at my first match. I ended up getting second and haven't been able to repeat the success, very frustrating.

I'm interested but also intimidated as I've never shot at 100 yards for groupings. Only shot at 50 yards once.

I'm still brand new to precision shooting and definitely would like to get better.

I only have cheap $40 Bushnell Banner 3x9-50 scopes where I use a screw driver to dial in.

I was at Angeles yesterday for Labor Day practicing at 25 yard targets using Remington Golden Bullets

Action/barrels are all factory. I don't have any performance mods

Using 3x9-50mm

Zoomed in at 3x

Randall and Mike,

Do you think you guys will shoot the match as well as run it? The turn-out should be small and I think we have enough line helpers that both of you can shoot if you want.

With .22's it depends on what the gun likes. You should go out and shoot 50 of each type of ammo you have and see what the gun likes. Most .22's shoot wolf match pretty well so that's what most guys settle on. You just need to try it. Just go to the match, have fun, and learn as much as you can.

Damn, you guys without a .22, score yourselves a .22. These things are cheap. They're cheap to shoot. They're fun. They're great practice. A .22 rifle is the best gun ever made.

This Savage is around $250:

http://www.riflegear.com/p-1935-savage- ... arrel.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

This Super Sniper is $400:

http://swfa.com/SWFA-SS-10x42M-Tactical ... 53713.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

That scope focuses down to 11 yards. You can even shoot that thing at an indoor range without blur or parallax. You don't even have to pay for targets. Just get a scrap target out of the trash can, shoot a hole in it, and then shoot for the hole.

Add a hundred for a bipod. Get some cheapie rings. Add a comb. Score some spare mags. Score a loop sling. Even with all of that, you're at about a grand for a really nice rifle that costs about as much as rebarreling your 6mm Whizbang one time. And you can shoot this .22 thousands and thousands of times and never have to rebarrel.

If you already have a decent scope on your centerfire but want to upgrade to a nicer scope, toss your existing scope on the .22. It's a great excuse to score that bitchin new latest greatest super duper scope for your centerfire. It's totally guilt-free. In fact, tell yourself you're actually saving money by doing this. It may be bullshit, but it works. Or, put some of your junk for sale on the classifieds or on eBay to bankroll the new rifle. This rifle is cheap enough that it doesn't take a lot of sales to add up to a grand. Or, what about that that lonely gun that always sits in the corner of your safe and gets no love? Everyone has these pieces of shit lying around. Sell that and score a .22 rifle without going out of pocket.

"Good scope" and "under $100" doesn't exist.

That's actually not a good 22 scope because it is not parallax adjustable.

That Bushnell's focus and parallax are fixed at 100 yards. It seems like you do all of your shooting at 25 yards.

If you want to make that Bushnell work, you can undo the lock ring and turn out the objective to focus the scope at 25 yards. This seems to freak out people, but it isn't a big deal. I've done this to several of my scopes.

I started at 25 yds just to get a feel for it. I'll be going out to 50, 100, 200. Just not sure I can do it with the cheap Bushnell Banner Dusk/Dawn 3x9-50 scope that I have now.

In that video you posted of your Cheytac, it looks as though the scope has an adjustable objective. It seems to me that scope would be more usable with .22LR than the $200 Bushnell.

In many ways, a rimfire scope is more demanding than a centerfire scope. You need gobs of elevation if you're going to shoot at longer ranges. You need adjustable parallax to shoot at rimfire ranges from 10 to 200 yards. You're turning the knobs so often that tracking is important.

Something like this at $300 might work for you:

http://swfa.com/SWFA-SS-12x42-Tactical- ... 53714.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It's also available in 10x if you prefer.
