Angeles, Wednesday 17 November
Planning on going out to Angeles with a buddy on Wednesday. We'll be on the left side as most seem to prefer. We'll be there in the morning until around lunch.

I'll probably get there around 6PM.
Now we just need someone to do the afternoon shift.

They're open until 9PM on Wednesday nights. They do close the left side earlier when the sun gets below the hills, but the right side has flood lights and there are usually some free benches unless its a busy night. The rifle benches are all the way down at the end on the right. You can set up targets out to 100yds and they have a few steel targets at 100 too.

The rifle steel on the right side of the handgun line is at 88yds which is also about the furthest you can get a paper target setup on that side.

I shot my 22 over there at 88yds and shot the tighest 10 shot group I have ever shot with it past 75yds...

Just make sure the police are not going to be there because they usually close the rifle line at noon for the police on thursdays.jwpark wrote:I'll be there Thursday afternoon to zero my 308.

Re: Angeles, Wednesday 17 November
Love the Crickett. I scored one for my nephew:maddesign wrote:really just want to get a 50yd zero, it's for my new 22 and my daughter's Cricket.
I played around with this Crickett a few times and liked it so much that I mounted a loop sling on it with Pachmayr swivels:
A real 1907 sling would have been huge on a gun this dinky. So I used a beater Uncle Mike's loop sling, which is about 7/8" wide, to make the package more scale. I had to cut the sling's length to make it fit the Crickett, but I can just barely loop up with the sling on its longest setting. The tail end of the striker touches my eyelash though in sitting and prone. For a child it should be very good.
When my nephew gets a little older, this will be waiting for him:

that's cool John, I really wanted my daughter to pick the wood one like yours, I'm just glad she didn't get the pink one! She opted for black one as long as it has a scope. Good tip on the sling and swivels, that's what I need to get her. But like her mom, she wants a nice case for her rifle first...

Re: Angeles, Wednesday 17 November
Whatever your daughter wants is probably the best one for her. It's going to be her gun after all.
My nephew is really young so I just bought him the walnut one because that's the one I would have wanted if I was a kid. I grew up with some beater Crossman 766 air rifle and even as a kid I knew it was a piece of shit because it had a chocolate brown plastic stock with fake wood grain and pores in it. From my way of looking at things as a little kid, I knew that a real deal rifle had a real wood stock. (This was well before synthetic stocks became popular.)

Oh, on the case, I got my nephew one of those $15 beater gun slips you see at the gun show:

The box that slip is sitting on is 27" long.
The Crickett just barely fits in:

Im thinking about getting my gf the pink one so that she can go out to the range with me and shoot something. So you guys like the crikets? I was wondering how reliable they are and if you guys like them.

Re: Angeles, Wednesday 17 November
If your girlfriend digs the pink one, then I guess it would be a great gun for her. This pink stuff is a little risky I think. If I were a girl, I'd be a little insulted if someone gifted me a pink rifle. But if your girlfriend digs it, then it's a score for everyone.
The only Crickett I've played around with is my nephew's, but it's utterly reliable. Feeding isn't an issue because the Cricketts are single-loaded and the user has to put each round into the chamber. It's pretty much impossible to have a mis-feed. But my nephew's Crickett extracts and ejects perfectly. In fact, I don't recall ever having experienced a failure to extract or eject with this gun. The only thing that hasn't been perfect is ignition. This is a problem for any rimfire from any manufacturer. But it's not as though the Crickett has a weak striker or anything. The design is sound.
Other than the pink, the only thing I'd worry about is if your girlfriend would dig single-feeding each round and then cocking the striker for every shot. A lot of people, male or female, wouldn't like this and would prefer a self-loader like a 10/22.

Another option, if your girlfriend wants to go uptown, is the Anschutz Woodchucker:

The Woodchucker uses a 64 repeating action. Anschutz also makes 10-shot mags and a single-shot adapter.
