righty shooter left eye dominant

Post by maddesign »

Been shooting for years with a right handed rifle. Now I'm thinking about building a custom and doing it lefty.

If anyone has gone through this, was it worth it? I know when shooting off hand it would help a lot as well as side prone, any where else?
I like the fact that I can see right into the action when shooting a right handed rifle.

Was toying with the idea of ordering a GAP rifle or starting with a 700 and having one of our local smiths build it up...thoughts??

thanks in advance.

It should certainly make positional shooting easier for you, prone shooting will probably be more comfortable as well but not as much as for other positions. The only real downside is that it can be very difficult to sell your gun if the time comes to do so.

I am left eye dominant. I taught myself to overcome it. Have you shot a lefty rifle?

Same here.. my vision is also much better in my left eye.

The benefits of shooting with my left eye are quickly lost when i try shooting left handed though.

I'm a lefty with right eye dominant and shoot pistols left handed but rifle right handed...pretty much I'm confused!

I'd go with what feels natural to you.

I've have a couple lefty AR's but have not shot a lefty bolt gun yet.

Been trying for years to overcome the left eye dominant thing and can't do since I usually shoot with both eyes open.

Well Kev, good advice, shooting lefty better feel natural to me cause I just ordered my rifle today :D

oh man... where's Charlie?

Pretty sure he can save you a lot of hassle and a long wait on a lefty GAP.

no Gap, went the cheaper route, priced it out and the GAP base rifle with everything I wanted was almost 4g's w/o optics, plus an estimated 2 month wait...ouch!

Ordered a LH .308 700 sps , AI 2.0 stock & mag, NF scope, rings and base, JP brake, Timney trigger and once everything comes in, I'll ask Randall to do his finishing touches on it.
If all goes well, I should be zeroing this rig in 2 weeks!!

been looking at his rifle for awhile, that's what inspired me to call GAP, but I'm not up to speed on that Lapua round. Still figuring my way around the .308

that's if they can get everything in stock, or it could be longer...the max could be 8 months especially if I wanted a lefty Templar action.

Defiance machine makes the Templar action. If you still want to go that route, call Defiance and they will shoe horn you into their schedule and you can have it in three weeks or so.

My right eye is very bad from a car crash and I now shoot left handed. Had a few rifles build and don't mind shooting at all as a lefty. Kind of makes it nice because week side stages are no issue at all.

If you going to build a custom gun build it to way that will allow you to shoot best. I had GAP build my first gun... Hey I will sell it to you if you want... the gun shoots in the mid .2s and has only been fired by George himself. I think it's still in the fs section.

I'm also right-handed and left-eyed.

I just accept it and shoot the best that I can.
