CaPRC new precision rifle shooter clinic Saturday Sept 25th

Posted: Thu Sep 16, 2010 4:12 pm
by AR15barrels
Come on out and join us at Angeles for our new precision rifle shooter orientation on Saturday September 25th.
We will teach how to get behind the gun/scope, attaining proper eye relief, using the features of the scope and natural point of aim.
Then we will check your zero at 100yds and get the knobs set to zero.
From there we will take you through gathering dope and shooting targets out to 600yds.
Experienced club members will be on hand to help new shooters.
We will limit this to 12 actual shooters so that those shooters can get maximum range time.
Cold drinks and BBQ will be provided as part of the $30 entry/range fee for the day.
The entry fee covers your use of the range for the rest of the day after the clinic is over too.
Plan on a full day as the schedule has us shooting until at least 2pm.

Image

Tentative schedule as follows:
8:00 signups
8:15 prone position talk and demonstration
9:15 line goes hot. verify, correct and zero knobs at 100yds (5-10 rds)
10:30 data management talk - know where your zero is
11:00 data gathering from 200yds out to 600yds.
12:30 BBQ lunch break
1:00pm finish data gathering to 600yds as needed and shoot precision 100yd targets as time allows.

This shoot is held at Angeles Ranges.
Please show up before 8:00am to get signed in so we can start at 8:15.
We will be all the way to the left on the rifle range.
You can print-out an Angeles waiver and fill it out at home to save time during the sign-in process.
http://www.angelesranges.com/form.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Some things to bring:
Precision rifle wearing a scope with target knobs, eye/ear protection, sunscreen, chamber flag, 60 rounds of match quality ammo, printout from a ballistics program showing your bullet drop in moa or mils as appropriate to your scope, shooting mat or blanket, bipod, some kind of rear bag or sand sock, small notepad to take notes, pencil or pen and food & water for 4-5 hours.
Bring what you have, don't worry too much about what you don't have.
We always make do with what we have.

This is a Precision Rifle event so if the gun/scope/ammo is not capable of shooting tight groups, it will detract from your overall experience at the shoot.
If possible, please have your rifle zeroed at 100yds and your knobs set to zero.
We will verify a correct zero at the shoot, but it takes time that is better spent putting rounds on targets.

Please RSVP in this thread by the Thursday before the shoot if you plan to attend.
When you RSVP please post something very definite in this thread such as "I will be there".
I will not accept "if...", "I would like" or "I might" responses as an RSVP.

The following people are on the schedule as shooters:
DavidRSA
the poi
series8217
Juice5610
Waldo
Jeff361
Rnewham
ricksvfx
Chevroletkid88
marxdspot

The following people are on the waiting list:
RamZar

The following people will coach and run the line:
AR15barrels
Snappy
DirtRacer151
264Charlie
Connor P Price
Gnzrme

Non-shooters are welcome of course and you will still learn a bunch even if you are not shooting.

Way to man up all you new guys. You are going to have a lot of fun!!! Be ready for the addiction after your done for the day.

I do want to stress the importance of bringing some quality ammo that your rifle really likes. In months past shooters will bring out the cheapest stuff they can find at walmart. You will benefit greatly in spending the extra money on better ammo. If you don't have any then just ask and we will try to help you find some. So of us have some extra factory stuff we could sell you as well.

I used to shoot that. Its not really capable of tight groups, it may do, but it will detract from the experience.

How does it shoot through your gun? We don't really care what kind it is at this point so long as it shoots well.... 1moa or better. For the long range clinics we will be much more concerned with the actual bullets themselves as this is an important part in making the bullet get to 1k. For this short range stuff (>600yds) just bring something that shoots tight.

This is not really something that you could share a rifle at.
We are limited to 12 positions and we put 1 person/rifle per position.

If you need another rifle for your friend, perhaps someone here will have one to loan.

I was just thinking the date was off looking at it.

And from the other thread with the calendar it was listed as Sun Oct 24 - Course of Fire A
http://www.caprc.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=223" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I ask because I am getting my first rifle and won't have it or a scope by the time this class is.

Right now we have more RSVP's than slots.

Then we can move up the people on the waiting list as slots open up.

Unfortunately I won't be able to make it to this clinic. And I also don't have my rifle yet.
I guess I was looking at an old calendar when I thought the next clinic was in October.

Do you think possibly because of the high response that you guys might hold another new shooter clinic next month in October. I know I would definitely be in, and have a buddy that would come with me as well.

Nope.
It's a 3 month training cycle.
If you attend all 3 shoots in the 3 month cycle, you are pretty much ready for competition.

We start a new 3 month cycle, get this... every 3 months. ;)
