So at yesterday's match, I had some trouble with my holdovers. But when I was practicing had no problems. Figured out that when I was practicing, my scope was at 25x. During the match I went down to 12x.
How much of a difference is there between Mils at 25x and 12x. BTW does it matter if I zeroed in my scope at 25x vs. a lower power?

I believe it matters if your scope is a SFP as appose to a FFP. But I'm sure some one who really knows will chime in and explain.

Your holds would be half at 12x what they were at 25 with an SFP scope.

if you have a SFP Nightforce they put a line on the magnification adjustment that indicates where the 1/2 of the max power is at. At this setting, what was 1MIL at max setting is then 2Mils. So yeah your holds are 1/2 of what they would be at max power. If you have a FFP scope the holds are the same at all pwoers.

I spotted for you on that stage, so this explains a lot. Your four hundred yard shots were very high. As an example, lets say your for hundred yard dope is two mils, if you were holding over two mils in your reticle with the scope at half power then you were actually holding four mils. Every scope is different so it won't be exact but this is a good approximation and explains why your impacts were quite high.

This is where the benefit of ffp comes in, they are accurate at all magnifications.
