Hello gents.

Im fairly new to precision and Im also very interested in learning more from credible sources. Not looking for Zombiepocalypse, Mall-ninja type bang-bang courses, I just want some quality instruction on improving my rifle skills at distance.

Can anyone make some suggestions regarding established trainers or courses in the southern half of the state? My schedule is tough to deal with, so regular courses or private training sessions are a big plus.

Ive inquired at Premier Rifle Academy, but received no response yet. At one point I shot a match at WEGC with several regular posters on this site, and got great feedback, had a great time and left wanting to learn more and shoot more.

Any input you folks may have would be appreciated.

Pat.. attend some CAPRC clinics. Also attend more WEGC matches and your skills will be sharpened in no time. There's no better way to learn them to just jump right in.

I'd really like to attend more matches. The one I did manage to get out to was great, friendly people, lots of information and interesting courses of fire. Unfortunately I work overseas so in the stretches of time off I have home, I may get opportunity for a single match. Often, I wont even get that much. So any course or training session that would allow me to focus for a couple of days at a time would be beneficial. Ideally, I'd get a course in, multiple range sessions on my own, and a match all in the same break.

Realistically, thats tough to pull off so any focused trigger time is an improvement.

Although it's on a smaller scale, an Appleseed weekend would be very helpful.

Appleseed seems to be a bit slow. I guess I should clarify more what I'm looking for. I've been at it (when possible) for couple years, and in addition to learning as much as possible on my own, Ive attended multiple course lasting several days. I compete in a couple disciplines now (3 gun, USPSA/IPSC), and I reload for everything from pistol to carbine to precision rifle.

I'm looking for something geared more past the bare basics. More along the lines of distances of 500-1000 and beyond, practice and drills in ranging targets of UKD, movers, and pushing my rifle and ammo capability to the edge of its effective range, time pressure, reticle holds etc. and of course reading wind.

I don't mean to seem like I know it all, I certainly don't. I just want to avoid the boredom of the beginning courses, challenge myself and work on weak points. Not to mention, time at home is precious so i just want to make the best possible use of it.

The input is great, please keep it coming and please excuse me if this seems arrogant. It is not at all intended to be.

Do the CaPRC clinics include information like this?

I met a couple people last year, Mike (long ponytail, match director for WEGC and Nate, Short action precision owner) who recommended i keep an eye on this site. They were among several who were friendly and knowledgable and who are the type its enjoyable to learn from.

Start shooting the local monthly matches. Also the "B" & "C" Clinics would be beneficial. But matches are where your weaknesses are going to be revealed.

Pat, I've been called many names ..... Rick, Richie,DICK but never Mike haaaa! Sounds like you're a busy man but any chance you get to join in a Caprc clinic will be time well spent ... I've attended some training with the former Ares Armor now M.O.A. (max ordinate academy) specifically Tyler H might be worth a shot looking them up, not sure where they are currently holding their courses.

Shit. Im getting old. Ive had attended an Ares class years ago with Tyler, I will look up the new company. Im good with faces, bad with names. Thanks for the input. Hope to see you guys again at a match soon.
