CAPRC Marksmanship Clinic A 3-10-13
Posted: Wed Jan 16, 2013 9:16 pm
by AR15barrels
Come on out and join us at Angeles for our new precision rifle shooter orientation on Sunday March 10th.
We will teach how to get behind the gun/scope, attaining proper eye relief, using the features of the scope and natural point of aim.
Then we will check your zero at 100yds and get the knobs set to zero and work on the basics of marksmanship.
The course curriculum was written by a former USMC scout sniper instructor.
This is a beginning precision rifle shooter clinic so we will concentrate on basic marksmanship as it is the basis of all future learning.
This will be shot at 100yds.
Fees are $75 for non members or $60 for club members.
The entry fee covers the classroom session, cold drinks and BBQ lunch.
We will limit this to 24 shooters.
Plan on a full day as the schedule has us shooting until at least 4pm.
You may attend the classroom portion as a non-shooter and then observe the shooting portion of the day for a reduced $25 non-shooter fee.
Tentative schedule as follows:
8:30 Sign-in at hunters education classroom
9:00 Classroom session at hunters education clasroom
11:45 move to the rifle line and safety briefing
12:00 verify, correct and zero knobs at 100yds (10 rds)
12:30 BBQ lunch break
1:00 open shooting time with instruction
Some things to bring:
Precision rifle wearing a scope with target knobs, eye/ear protection, sunscreen, chamber flag, 80 rounds of match quality ammo, shooting mat or blanket, bipod, some kind of rear bag or sand sock, small notepad and a pencil or pen to take notes.
Bring what you have, don't worry too much about what you don't have.
We always make do with what we have.
This is a
Precision Rifle event so if the gun/scope/ammo is not capable of shooting tight groups, it will detract from your overall experience at the shoot.
If possible, please have your rifle zeroed at 100yds and your knobs set to zero.
We will verify a correct zero at the shoot, but it takes time that is better spent putting rounds on targets.
RSVP's for CaPRC club members will be accepted after 12 noon on Friday 3/1/13.
RSVP's for non club members will be accepted after 12 noon on Monday 3/4/13.
RSVP by posting "I will be there" in this thread to get on the shooters list.
Any shooter RSVP's posted before those times will be ignored or deleted.
We are also looking for experienced club members to show up and help instruct.
If you are able to help on the line, please RSVP anytime.

I just joined the club for the specific purpose of attending this clinic and going on from there. On Friday, I found out that a wrist operation that was scheduled for later this month has been moved up to Friday 3/8.
I was really looking forward to this. How often are the basic clinics run?

You could attend the classroom portion if you're up to it.

It's gonna be held at Fort Angeles. Perfect 100yd private range to get a solid zero and build a good foundation to be able to shoot further.

My buddy is attending as a shooter for his class. he will be using my 223 rig. I believe we are only shooting out to 100 yards. I've loaded 100 rounds of Hornady 55 grain vmax with 24 gr of H335. Would this load suffice for the class. I can also load up some 69 grain nosler competition bullets. What say the professors?
The rig is: JP CTR-02
Barrel specs:
Chamber: .223
Length: 22"
Gas system: Rifle-length
Twist: 1:8 button rifled

Vortex Viper 6.5-20x44 Mil dot reticle - MOA adjustments. I gave him a link to review the MIL/MOA conversion. Rig is zero'd at 100 yards.

Thank you for the quick info and help. Can't wait for the class to start and see what I'm doing wrong and how I can improve. I actually signed up for last year but due to last minute work issues I had to cancel. Great group of members you have here.

Rare to see a forum to have a community of shooters that speak from experience and not internet experts that regurgitate info from manufacturers websites.
To OP or AR15Barrels. My buddy is schroderson and is confirmed as the 9th shooter. Please delete #16.
