Is this match going to be on the general shooting line or one of the private ranges?

General line like our typical centerfire matches. Same for the April and Nov. match. The June and Aug. matches will be at the Fort Angeles private range.

I was planning on shooting this match but I discovered that my scope doesn't have enough elevation to get out to 200 yards and I don't have any kind of reticle for hold overs! :o

You should shoot the match anyway, the 200 yard target might be impossible to hit if the wind is anything more than a light breeze.

Just shoot it. Have someone spot for you on the 200 steel and guestamate the holdover.

Is there going to be a "sight in" period before the match? As my scope is not sighted in, that would be a requirement.

Yes, from the line opening to the first cease fire (about 1/2 hr) will be for sighting in and confirming dope. There will be paper targets at 50 and 100 yards, and steel at 150 and 200.

Thanks for making up that sheet. I had hard dope for only 50, 100, 150, and 200 and used your chart to "fill in" the rest.

There's a neat trick I teach on how to fully use that dope sheet.
Print out a fresh one for EVERY DAY you go to the range.
Gather hard dope at known distances, keeping track of the temperature when you gathered the dope.
Now look at my sheet and go across at each distance you have hard dope for and CIRCLE the hard dope number.
Some form of line will get plotted.
As long as the temperature stays the same, work within the line that's plotted.
As the temperature changes, move right (hotter) or left (cooler) from the plotted line.
This system works VERY well and I have the trophies to prove it...

Anyone want to shoot but not have a rifle? I have 2 loaners. $15 for 3 boxes of ammo is all you would need to cover (plus match fees of course).

What do the numbers on the second line down at each distance represent?

They are hold overs for wind but I'm not sure what MPH. Probably for 10 mph, but dont quote me on that.

Wind hold, in mils, for 10mph full value crosswind on the first MOA chart. Not sure about the second, new chart in mils. Doesnts seem to match up with mils, moa or inches.

Ok, I forgot that the first MOA sheet may have windage already in mils and I divided it by 3.438 again.
I'll fix it tonight and re-post...

There is the Ranchside Cafe right on the corner of Foothill and Osbourne. They open at 7am. If your there first thing and get ordered quickly, you can make it in time but its usually rushed so we don't usually do it match day. After the match, we usually go there for lunch.

Congrats guys, everyone did well and shot safely, hope you all had fun. I think some of the newcomers had a slightly rude awakening about shooting under the pressure of a match, that's part of the game. It usually takes 3 or so matches to "figure out" how it runs and be prepared for it. I know some excellent marksmen finished towards the tail end of the pack, not from lack of skills, but from errors. Now you know why the unofficial club motto is "Don't fuck up." A few suggestions for the future:
1) Read the COF and understand what you need to do. Ask questions if you need to.
2) Have your mags prepped for the next stage.
3) After you shoot a stage, dial your scope back to zero or dial in the next stages dope.
4) Check your dope and confirm it is correct during your prep period
5) Know how to get back to your zero if you get lost on your knobs. If your scope does not have a zero stop, take note of how many moa (or mils) you can turn your elevation turret down from your zero. Write this number on your scope or someplace handy. If you ever get "lost" as to what revolution your knob is at, simply crank it down till it stops, then come back up the amount you have written down. Also, on some scopes you can take a sharpie and black out all the numbers on the turret below your zero giving you a referance point if you get lost.
6) Learn a shooting cadence in your head for typical stage time limits (30, 60, 90 sec, etc.) Most shooters today did not use all their available time and shot too fast. Practice this untill you learn to use all your available time to your advantage without going over.
