				CaPRC Marksmanship Clinic "A" 9-25-11
				Posted: Fri Sep 02, 2011 9:37 am
				by AR15barrels
Come on out and join us at Angeles for our new precision rifle shooter orientation on Sunday September 25th.
We will teach how to get behind the gun/scope, attaining proper eye relief, using the features of the scope and natural point of aim.
Then we will check your zero at 100yds and get the knobs set to zero and work on the basics of marksmanship.
The course curriculum was written by a former USMC scout sniper instructor.
This is a beginning precision rifle shooter clinic so we will concentrate on basic marksmanship as it is the basis of all future learning.
This will be shot at 100yds.
Fees are $50 for non members or $40 for club members.
The entry fee covers the classroom session, cold drinks and BBQ lunch.
Plan on a full day as the schedule has us shooting until at least 3pm.
You may attend the classroom portion as a non-shooter and then observe the shooting portion of the day for a reduced $20 non-shooter fee.

Tentative schedule as follows:
8:15 Sign-in
8:30 Classroom session at hunters education clasroom
10:30 move to the rifle line and safety briefing
10:45 verify, correct and zero knobs at 100yds (5-10 rds)
11:15 open shooting time with instruction
12:30 BBQ lunch break
1:00 open shooting time with instruction
Some things to bring:
Precision rifle wearing a scope with target knobs, eye/ear protection, sunscreen, chamber flag, 80 rounds of match quality ammo, shooting mat or blanket, bipod, some kind of rear bag or sand sock, small notepad and a pencil or pen to take notes.
Bring what you have, don't worry too much about what you don't have.
We always make do with what we have.
This is a
Precision Rifle event so if the gun/scope/ammo is not capable of shooting tight groups, it will detract from your overall experience at the shoot.
If possible, please have your rifle zeroed at 100yds and your knobs set to zero.
We will verify a correct zero at the shoot, but it takes time that is better spent putting rounds on targets.
RSVP's for CaPRC club members will be accepted after 12 noon on Monday 9/12.
RSVP's for non club members will be accepted after 12 noon on Wednesday 9/14.
Any shooter RSVP's posted before those times will be ignored or deleted.
We are also looking for experienced club members to show up and help instruct.
If you are able to help on the line, please RSVP anytime.

Would a savage mark II tr with a bushnell 4200 work for this clinic? I would like to do this but don't have an acceptable center fire rifle yet. The only other rifle I have is 7mm rem mag, and was told that rifle was not good for learning precision rifle skills.

I would think it would be fine, just shoot at 50 yards. You won't be able to gather usefull dope, but that nots a big factor of the A class Randall: I should be able to line help/bbq.

Thanks for putting this together. A clinic like this is sorely needed, at least for me and my friends. Please add me to the list if there's still room.
As well, please add Black Majik (Rich C.) and Beetle Bailey (Ken L.) to the list. They will be posting shortly, I'm sure.

I shoot steel at LA range out to 600 yards. The steel pig and bear are a simple task when i slow it down.
Thanks Be Happy

If the ammo won't group 1/2moa or so, you will have a hard time learning as you will be chasing rounds around and around on target...

Bring what you got, randall is being a gear snob

I've somehow placed 4th and 6th in the last two monthly matches with a rifle that barely shoot 1 moa.

I've got 1/2 moa dots planned...

We never got to them on the last A clinic though.

Ok, the RSVP list is checked and updated.
Early RSVP's by non club members have been discarded.
We can't take +1's or early RSVP's as it's not fair to the people that followed the rules in the first post.
Please have your buddies sign up on the forum and post their own RSVP's.
We are at 21 shooters now and we will most likely cap this at 30 shooters.

How much different is this from the "old" beginner clinic? Is it worth doing this one again or should I wait for B or C? (I did the beginner and shortrange clinics in 2010).

We have a printed curriculum and spend a couple hours of classroom time before shooting begins.
The old "A" clinic included some dope gathering and my talks on external ballistics.
The new "A" clinic is only at 100yds, working on the position behind the rifle and all the basics, while shooting a series of smaller and smaller dots as your shot placement improves throughout the day.
