Kneeling position

Is it acceptable to place the rifle on your knee or place your support hand on your knee and the rifle on top of your support hand? I've been experimenting with my positional shooting and this seems pretty stable.

Most of the kneeling positions I have seen are variations on the standard marriage proposal down on one knee thing, I can't visualize how you could get low enough to rest the rifle on your knee unless you are shooting downhill or are flexible enough to be your own best friend. I think I have seen what you are describing, not the being your own best friend part, in airgun field target shooting which is more of a sitting position with a weird support strap.

This site has plenty of pictures of the field target crowd, a few showing a strap between the knees to add stability to the position.

Here is a picture of myself in the position. My butt is on my right foot so technically I'm kneeling right? I am also able to get my rifle on my knee while sitting. Is that okay? I still use a sling to eliminate wobbling.

That looks like kneeling to me and yes, I am going to fall over several times trying to copy it.

I've yet to try it at the range, but if this works out, this could help my positional scores, which is the weakest part of my game.

That should work no problem as longs as your butt does not touch the ground. But what do I know.

Having never seen that strap setup or heard of anyone else doing it, I have been working on the same idea for a while now...

You need a heavier gun.
Also, disconnect the rear of the sling and step on it with the forward foot.

So I tried out my technique this after noon at Angeles. It's not rock solid but I was getting better groupings than the old "knee in the armpit" technique I was using before. I was able to get into a similar position while sitting but it was more of a strain to get into...
