I'm headed out to the Barstow area on Sunday morning for some break in on the new rifle and staying overnight. I'm picking up a trailer on the base Monday morning and then I figured I'd get some shooting in on Monday too. I have a brand new FN SPR A1 and Nightforce that I have to do a break in on so I'm not expecting to get a ton done but maybe I'll try to get partially zero'd in the process too. We will see.
Here she is:

I was thinking of finding a spot off towards the Calico Ghost town... any suggestions?

Barrel Break-In is overrated. Especially on a chrome-lined one.
Enjoy

Can you use a regular bore snake on a chrome lined barrel or am I stuck using the nylon rod and patches?

I usually wipe the barrel out using a 175 SMK

Is the trailer self contained, or do you need an actual space with water and electrical? I live in Yermo and can show you some places if I don't have to work Sunday.

I usually clean my barrel every time I open a new 500 round box of bullets. I use wipeout with patches

EDIT: Nevermind I forgot the original thread was about an overnight trip to Barstow

No campsite needed... I'm just primitive camping. I'm in the jeep so I figured I would roll out deep and set up.
Any suggestions on a shooting place either by Calico or Ord mountain area where I can shoot. I can find my own I just wondered if there is a recommended spot.

Calico is all shotgun only areas from what I recall. Its an OHV area. Look on the other side of the 40 ;)

Thanks Brian... That helps. I'll wander towards the Ord mountain area then.
The trailer I'm getting on Monday morning is off base and it's a simple m101a1 with the top and bows but Im not sleeping in it on Sunday. Just camping.

It's open for shotguns hand guns and rifles day or night.
