TPRC Pics

Hey Gents,

Here are a few pics from TPRC. There only a few because this match is FAST!! TPRC is certainly not for newer shooter nor people that haven't shot many comptitions, the stages are fairly complicated and the ROs move very quickly to get through the COFs. That combined with the gusty wind, dust and rain, it's proved to be a very challenging course.

So the pics are limited.

Driving to AZ. Beautiful place and class III friendly : )

Saw a tank. Had nice rifling.

Ran into these two thugs:

Zeroed my rifle and checked the DA / local elevation (2300/1200ft)

Ran into Soberbiker. Very nice guy.

Uh oh, this was a taste of what was to come:

Image

This morning my squad shot on the 100 yard range first, lots of little dots and bloops to shoot from 11 yards to 100. All sorts of odd stages, two sideprone (one port up and one port down for good measure- in case we didn't fuck up enough on the first). They even had a mover stage shooting over a barricade... very fuckin' cool.

I didn't shoot great nor terrible. Right in the middle I think. Ryan was knocking shit down left and right of course, he's fun to shoot with.

Here he is on the obstacle course. 25 rounds in 5 minutes... sound easy? It weren't, you had to MOVE FAST!

In these photos you will see the winner of the 2010 SCPRC and 2010 TBRC in his native habitat. Notice how he looks at ease moving through the obstacle course that took many bigger men down. While he may look like he's sleeping in a few of the prone positions, I assure you- he's a coiled snake ready to strike and snatch the top awards from any who dare wander in his territory.

Here I am taking a few pot shots...

Image

Image

Image

Here is the the second place winner of the 2010 SCPRC and first in the Law Enforcement Division, Top 308, Top long shot and some other awards of the 'top' division, (can't remember his name... Campfield?) He's San Diego Swat and a super nice guy. (unless agitated). He's doing great, probably will be a top contender here.

Image

And the last picture I took before the skies opened up and the wind devils played havoc was of this AMAZING toy. It's an .308 AIAW.... with a naughty AAC. Damn quiet. Shit all rifles should have these, so pleasant to hear it shoot.

The Overall Winner for the 5th Annual 2010 SCPRC was Mr. Ryan Kerr with a total point score of 1,139 points. As a point to recognize, Ryan is a back to back champion for 2010. Ryan also won the 2010 TBRC which is another well known major match up in Sacramento California. That's not an easy task to do considering he was in company of very serious competitors at both events from all over the country.

You don't get to say "we" unless you were there shooting.
"We" (those of us who shot the match) shot on different squads with drastically different wind conditions so scores are all over the map...

They put me and steven into empty slots left by people that did not show up to sign-in friday.
There was not really a choice to placement as there were only a couple open slots.

Wow.... Unbelievable 3 days.. leave friday in the am and get to the zeroing spot 40 miles into AZ...(flat wash with 500 yards of clear firing.... Gathered dope and shot about 10 rounds with no problem and then bamm, round is stuck the the chamber...Tapped it out with a cleaning rod and GTG, back to slayin bodies...get in car and get to range. Fired another 3-5 rounds at 100 yards all touching no problems and pack up for next morning...atleast 2 spots opened up and looked good that Randall and I were going to get to shoot, but they had to confirm that in the AM..

Arrive at range next morning and we get in, placed in squads where the people that we were replacing were.... I was alfonso from Vegas and Randall was Marc Soulle (sp?) I am in squad 2, its split in 2 sub groups and I go off to shoot the Obstacle course...25 rounds in 5 minutes from multiple positions/baricades, swaying platforms...ran out of time with 7 rounds to go, but had a failure to feed that cost me alot of time...then I went the 100 yard line and thats where my rifle jammed up with a live round in the chamber, unable to fire/unable to extract. I only got to shoot 2 stages out of several that totaled to about 600 points...that ended the match for me... Turned out the round that I fired before were tight, but with a clean/grit free action, they managed to work....Add dust/mud and WAY undersized ammo and you get a non functioning rifle...

So what did I learn in the 20-25 rounds that I shot.... I suck at reloading and need to properly adjust my die.... You should never have to press down or worse pound the bolt down to close it, I need to get my shit together more. This match was hard, multiple target transitions over an entire hillside with no prep time. Stage descriptions were read at the begining of the stage with a course walkthrough/description and thats it.

Re: TPRC Pics

by Gnzrme
continued... 1st shooter got some prep time and then it was "next shooter, stand by, beep...." You had to have your mags loaded and dope dialed and shoot the stage and if you were'nt ready, oh well... All I can say is wow, our matches are easy, our course descriptions are clear and concise and we have no where near the amount of transitions/range of targets that this match did...(that is a limit on our range)... and I still f'up on our stages... I am glad I went and yeah, I did only shoot about 25 rounds out of 200, but I still had fun... Oh, and for some reason, both Randall and I couldnt get Ballistic FTE to correct for atmosphere on my phone.... Any other Iphone recommendations for balistic apps?

Oh, and Randall thinks the Rest Stop just inside of AZ is the Best Rest Stop he has ever been too.... :o

Good job boys. It looks like we struggled in the 500yd bay. Was this because of the crazy weather yesterday or did they throw some monkey wrenches at us?

The 500 yard bay had shots from 300 to 700. It started off with a 500 KYL and ended with a 500 KLY weakside. Just to give you an idea I held for 20 MPH on Bravo for my hit. Then missed the next target because the wind was stronger maybe 25 - 28. With no tells on the line how do you judge 15 - 25 MPH? Oh yeah, we had to make the shots out of the back of a truck, roof in the cab with no prep to set parallax or even find the targets hiding on the hill... This was not easy at all.

A lot of this match had to do when you shot what section. It had three sections 500, Wash and 100 line. Squad two, the one Ryan and I shot on had the hardest time, with Steven and my group (they split group 2 into odds/evens) the worst off.

We shot the paper on the gusty day, most people did not even shoot on the positional stages. Why? because the wind was blowing you seven to eight targets left and right.

Then we moved to Wash, this was the only uncovered line and it rained the whole 4 hours we shot it. Ryan and I were the last shooter of the day and both stood with teeth chattering before we shot the final stage in a downpour. Some stages the rain was so bad shooters could not even get a shot off. As we did this the other two squads shot on covered lines (poor babies). As the last shooter to run the obstacle course, I had the luxury of 2 - 3 inches of mud in all the tubes and section we had to crawl under barbwire

The last day we shot the 500 yard line and got a little rain but the cover made it very nice compared to the Wash the day before. The guys that shot on the 500 line the day before stopped complaining about the 15mph winds when we told them we were holding form 0 to 25. The guys that shot this stage on the first, day second relay, made out like bandits. under a cover in the heavy rains and the winds slowed down for them.

Really, the above pics do NO justice to the match conditions, few would pull out a camera in the worst of it. With over 60 great shooters, many that could have one the match, I am very happy to finish 22nd. Everyone that finished above me was a great shooter and many that finished below be are better shooters than me. Some of my hits at 600+ in 20MPH was just plain luck. Considering Randall did not have a bad shooter between him and 1st I would be proud of my top 30 finish.

Really our monthly match don't come close to preparing you for this type of event and stress... The thing I found most difficult was the zero coaching rule. If you coached someone once you zeroed the stage no questions asked. That means I got to sit and watch Ryan miss left and could not say a word. He did the same for me, I missed the dueling tree shots 2-8 just slightly low but could not tell at all, it sucked.

All in all the AZ boys ran one hell of a match and I am glad I was able to shoot it. Really opens your eyes to a new level of competition.

Some got lucky, some not so lucky. Charlie, MV, and I (our relay) got to spend 4+ hours getting rained on with no cover in sight. EVERYTHING got soaked, muddy, gritty, and disgusting. Malfunctions were everytwhere. Overpressure with wet ammo, triggers not resetting, atlas bipods fucking up, etc. Our optics had so much water all over them, it was hard to see targets period, let alone hit them. Our wash scores were hard won. And Mark (the winner, super nice guy) was on our squad in the most unfavorable of all conditions experienced on the range. That says something. That guy is a phenomenal shooter.

Our 500 yard bay scores were poor because of the ridiculous wind. I have NEVER held so much wind, so close, with my 243...and still missed with not enough wind hold. It was howling 20+ across the range with a tree and a distant range flag as our only indicators. Everybody got beat up over there.

The match was amazing. Flat out horrible conditions, VERY tough courses of fire, tight time limits, strict rules, etc. It challenged me more than any other match I've been to...not only in the COFs but keeping your head together while soaked and freezing, crawling through mud while trying to figure out why I can't see through my scope. If people really want to be prepared for something like this, we need to really step it up at our club matches, or big matches are going to be a rude awakening.

What I have noticed from pics and from shooting the gunsite match is that alot if not most other matches are not held in a linear range they have the open enviorment to scatter their targets all over the place. Not only that but they also dont paint their targets all nice and shiny. Which definately adds to the level of difficulty..... One of us needs to hit the lotto, buy land build the ultimate range for caprc lol

Henry, I was shooting ok until the second day... I couldn't hit a thing and when I did start getting hits, (like the KYL) I would somehow blow it by missing a third shot on it. Or my fav was shooting the hostage target 3x (-75!!) fuck.

Oh well it was fun shooting with Charlie, Ryan and Steve-- hanging with everyone (and Randal!!) made the trip worth it.

Jose, finding the targets was just as hard as hitting them. Couple that with a foggy, wet scope... shit, we'd roll through 7-8 shooters without hearing the spotters yell 'impact' and say to each other 'jeez are they even letting us know when we get hits?' just then a spotter would cry "IMPACT" and we'd look at each other like shit, no one is hitting anything.

Then the cops showed up.. aw shit party's over.

We still kept shooting.. real hard to see some of those targets.
