CaPRC new precision rifle shooter clinic postponed

In the course of planning this weekends clinic, we made a decision to start over completely and re-format how the clinics will be taught.
In order to do this, we are going to cancel this month's clinic and start out in february instead.
There will most likely be 4 clincs given now with Clinic A working purely on fundementals of marksmanship.
More details to follow, but trust me when I say that this will be worth the wait...

Man.... I will be down there a week earlier for a Grad school interview around pomona.

I wished the norcal club will have something like this more often.

Sounds like a good ol time for the husband! hahaha. I just can't afford 2 weekend trips in a row down there. The gas money will kill me.

AR15barrels wrote: Probably.

You should commit to only using good ammo as using "plinking" ammo for practice will do you a big disservice.
Also, you can get away with 168gr match ammo just fine for our first two clinics.
I was gonna use the 150gr to get on paper, then stick to 175gr.
Right now I have Black Hills 175gr Match BTHP. Got the 175gr because it was at 168gr Match BTHP prices.

Read up on the "Fundamentals of Marksmanship" sticky in the Training and Techniques forum. Practice those fundamentals using dry fire and we'll see you there.

I'm sure many feel along the lines above....its a bit late notice for those who already planned for it.... why not keep it as is just like any other "A" clinic and then start the new stuff the next time round?

I'd be down to still go shoot. Since I'm likely the most inexperienced shooter, I'm sure I have a lot I can learn from other A Clinic shooters.

I started getting my first bolt rifle together in July '10 in preparation for this Course A Clinic. Got everything I needed just in time for the clinic...and now it's cancelled?

In regards to revamping how the clinics will be taught...when you say "Clinic A (will be) working purely on fundementals of marksmanship." Are we talking a very basic "intro to shooting" type thing? No actual learning to shoot at long range?

The reason I'm asking is I'm <5min from the US/Mex border, so the almost 3hr drive to Angeles for a basic intro class does not seem feasible at this time. I was intent on learning to go past 400yds, which is the furthest I've successfully shot with my AR. The original Course A format seemed to fit that bill.

We are still working out the logistics of the revamped courses but as of right now course A looks like it will mostly be 100yd shooting. Understand that this is a basic fundamentals course. Much of the info you might be taught may be old news to you but I will guarantee that you will still learn some things to help improve your game. It will be worth your time. Even I, who have been doing quite well this past year in this game will learn a few things from the new course. The instructor will be Seth. He is a former marine scout sniper that was also an instructor. I don't care how much you think you know... you will learn something at course A. There's much more to making shots at 400yds then you might think. It all starts with the basics and a lot of good work at 100. Just because someone can shoot groups at 100 all day long doesn't mean they're doing it right and it certainly doesn't mean your in the know how to move out to LR.

Btw... course A will most likely be a prerequisite for course B which will definatly be a prerequisite for course D. Course C will be a posistional course and will be just as valuable to learn as any of the others.
