CaPRC shortrange clinic Sunday October 24th
				Posted: Tue Oct 19, 2010 1:24 pm
				by AR15barrels
Come on out and join us at Angeles for our shortrange precision targets and positional practice session on Sunday October 24th.
We will start out with checking your 100yd zero.
Then we will shoot a few 100yd precision target stages to give you an idea what to expect in our monthly matches.
Lastly, we will do an introduction to the proper seated, kneeling and offhand positions.
Experienced club members will be on hand to help new shooters.
We will limit this to 12 actual shooters so that those shooters can get maximum range time.
Cold drinks and BBQ will be provided as part of the $40 entry/range fee for the day.
The entry fee covers your use of the range for the rest of the day after the clinic is over too.
Tentative schedule as follows:
8:30 signups
9:15 line goes hot
9:15 verify 100yd zeros, correct and zero knobs at 100yds (5 rds)
9:45 line break
9:50 aquire 400yd dope (5 rds)
10:00 100yd poker chips (5 rds)
10:10 Seated position demonstration
10:15 line break
10:20 100yd seated ipsc (10 rds)
10:30 100yd poolballs (9 rds)
10:40 Kneeling position demonstration
10:45 line break
10:50 100yd kneeling ipsc (10 rds)
11:05 5 dot option (5 rds)
11:10 Offhand position demonstration
11:20 100yd offhand bullseye (10 rds)
11:30 100yd to 400yd transistions
12:00 lunch
Since we don't need to shoot at longer ranges for this practice session, it will be held at Angeles Ranges.
Please show up before 8:30am to get signed in.
We will be all the way to the left on the rifle range.
You can print-out an Angeles waiver and fill it out at home to save time during the sign-in process.
http://www.angelesranges.com/form.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Some things to bring:
Precision rifle wearing a scope with target knobs, sling, eye/ear protection, sunscreen, chamber flag, 60 rounds of match quality ammo, printout from a ballistics program showing your bullet drop in moa or mils as appropriate to your scope, shooting mat or blanket, bipod, some kind of rear bag or sand sock, small notepad to take notes, pencil or pen, food & water for 6 hours and a backpack or bag to shoot off of.
Bring what you have, don't worry too much about what you don't have.
We always make do with what we have.
This is a
Precision Rifle event so if the gun/scope/ammo is not capable of shooting tight groups, it will detract from your overall experience at the shoot.
Please have your rifle zeroed at 100yds and your knobs set to zero.
If you need help with this, we can do it at the shoot, but it takes time that is better spent putting rounds on targets.
We will limit this shoot to 12 people to keep is simple and finish up before noon if possible.
Please RSVP in this thread by the Thursday before the shoot if you plan to attend.
When you RSVP please post something very definite in this thread such as "I will be there".
I will not accept "if...", "I would like" or "I might" responses as an RSVP.

Speaking of dropping out, I'm going to drop out as well.
I was wrenching a few nights ago and I tweaked my back. I still don't know how I tweaked it. But it's definitely tweaked. I kept my RSVP because I was hoping my back would get better by Sunday. But it's not looking good. I still can't stoop over or twist my body.
So, Randall, please scratch my name off the RSVP list. I'm going to miss this Sunday's shoot.
I'm pissed. Sorry guys.

I'm still looking for non-shooting helpers.
I sent out a text message yesterday.
If you received it, please rsvp so we have a total head count for the BBQ.

I made a mistake in the first post regarding the price of sunday's shoot.
It's $40 when we have a BBQ.
The first post is corrected now.

Will there be a chronograph at the shoot. I have hard dope on my handloads but the drop seems pretty steep for the load I'm using. I think the velocity that I calulated is off. I'm using .308 Hornady 168 gr bthp match and 43 gr of varget in a 24" barrels. I'm calculating 2553 fps using data from a Lee reloading book. Does that sound right?

Sounds close to me...maybe a little slower then reality but probably not much. You won't really know until you shoot it through a chrono or get some DOPE at long range though.

Sounds about 80 fps slow to me.

Just got back in and got the gear squared away...
I wanted to take the opportunity to say thanks to our CAPRC hosts for putting on this clinic today. Once again the instruction was great, I learned tons of new things, and the hospitality was unmatched.
Good times...it was nice to see folks again....and I've got some work to do on positions.
Additional thanks to Brad for the spotting, advice and BBQ , to Seth for reviewing the fundamentals and Randall for getting me squared away with the sling.
(Remember years ago on the first day of gym class, the poor schmoe who would have his jock strap on backwards or sideways? When it came to using slings today, that was me. I don't know how Randall was able to tell me that I had it installed backwards without laughing his head off..)
Thanks again guys..
Later,
Charlie

Wow, I'm sore today!!! that sitting postion was a killer.
Thanks guys for your time and experties. I found a few of my weeknesses and need to find where my mil-dot reticle is true. My holdover was WAY off on my transitional shooting. Time to to save up for a NF.
