Post by AR15barrels »

The California Precision Rifle Club is proud to announce their next centerfire match will be Sunday September 13th at the Angeles Ranges.
For details about the Angeles Ranges, see their website: http://www.angelesranges.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Image

Signups start at 7:30am and shooting should start at 8:15am when the line goes hot.
Please arrive at the left side of the Angeles rifle range no later than 7:45am to sign-in and get assigned your shooter numbers.
Your shooters number is also your position on the line so please lineup accordingly.

Match fee is $10 for Caprc members or $30 for non members.
The match fee also includes use of the range after the match is completed.
We usually finish by 1pm.
Bring 70 rounds of match grade ammo.
Be prepared to shoot as close as 10yds and as far as 600yds.
Be prepared to shoot from standing, kneeling, seated, prone and other improvised positions.
Bring a backpack to shoot off of for stages that don't allow a bipod.

This match is open to bolt action and semi-auto rifles from 223 up through 308.
A velocity limit of 3100 fps will be in effect to reduce damage to club-owned steel targets.
Bipods, slings, shooting mats and rear bags are allowed and recommended.
Chamber flags are mandatory and are available from the club if needed.

I am in.

Hi, I'm Alex! I'm a new guy here!
My brother and I decided it's that time to jump in and just do this already. He'll chime in once he sees my post. Lol.
We were at Angeles today and I'm feeling good about my zero, so it's as good a time as any!

Question, do you limit to 5 rounds in a mag?
I once read that rule, but couldn't find it again.
Thanks.

Sometimes.
It forces you to have to reload.

Hey Phil, I'm on here now. What time were you guys meeting to drive up to this match? I stuck a case in my .260 die but have enough brass prepped to load for this match.

All,

Thinking about joining for this match, and if not this one, then definitely future matches. Is 6.5 Creedmoor allowed?

Also, any rimfire matches planned for the future or have those been permanently cancelled?

Cheers,

6.5 Creedmoor is perfect. Stop thinking and come on out. Either way you'll wish you had sooner.

Not sure about rimfire matches though.

Yeah come on out!
It'll be my first match. Same with my friend shooting 308.
I'll be shooting 6.5 Grendel. Only shot that gun a couple times. I figure, it shoots straight...good a time as any.

I have a question about the tactical pillows.
Is there a rule regarding the size or quantity of bags/pillows?
Can I stuff my wardrobe into a backpack and use that as a "rear bag"?

I saw a pic of a guy sitting on his butt with a long legged bipod off his feet.
Is that sort of stuff legal?
Thanks

Some stages restrict the usage of extra items like shooting sticks, pillows and rear bags... other stages do not.. So I would say bring it and the match director will let you k n ow what stages you can and cannot use it.

Yes, I am in as well. I bought a bolt rifle a year ago to get into match shooting with my brother and friend and for some reason it has taken this long to jump in. So including me, that's 3 fngs doing their first match. Hopefully we won't need too much hand holding.

Btw, I'm looking for the COF's from the most recent months. I didn't see them here: http://www.caprc.com/targets/

Also is the 3100fps still the limit? I tend to see some others posting numbers around 3150.

You shooting a 6mm? If so, yes keep them below 3150... preferably below 3100

Yes, 6 creedmoor. Ok, thanks.

Also, will I have an opportunity to re-zero after the first stage, assuming its a cold bore stage?

3150 fps and below is fine.
Typically there is no zero time at a match. If you get a stage at 100y paper that is about as close as you get.

By chance could someone bring a concentricity gauge to the match? I'd like to know how much runout my .308 and 6mm reloads have.

Honestly Jeff, how do your rounds look on paper? If they are good don't worry about it. You will just mind fuck yourself by using a concentric gauge. If it ain't broke don't go looking for stuff to fix.

If they look like crap, then by all means use it.

Solo,
Can I quote you and put this into my tagline?...................

Jeff,
In all honesty can you consistently shoot to the mechanical ability of your rifle system? If that answer is: Yes, then you might benefit from chasing the minutiae.
However for the other 99%, our efforts might better be served: practicing wind reading, positional, and building a solid repeatable prone position.

Gald to have you back Ray.

Jeff, if you're loading new unfired 6CM brass using quality dies your runout should be quite minimal. I didn't start seeing runout over .002" till my 3rd firing. Even at 5 firings only around 15% of my rounds are more than .002" out of round. I usually just set those aside for positional or practice. If I'm feeling particularly OCD I'll gently bend them back in a vice with rubber jaws.

Didn't want to hijack the thread but the reason I want to check the concentricity of the reloads I've been making for myself and Jennifer is simply to know what kind of runout my process is producing. If the runout is really bad then it might be something I need to address. I won't know until I quantify the data.

The reloading process is something I enjoy and I want to keep improving my skills in that area too.

I'm not anywhere near the point of thinking I need to buy $500 worth of neck turning tools and gauges. I simply want to know the numbers.

Ok, we are at 17 shooters right now.
I am looking for a few good helpers to spot and run the line.
I also need helpers to setup and tear down the steel after the match.
I sent out a text message to this effect as well so if you got my text and you are free to help, please post up here...

Fun match, got better for me after I zeroed my rifle. Zero was .15 mil low and .25mil right. Velocity at 1200 rounds is holding steady at 3150fps.
