Sweet...now just got to decide on a basic rifle setup. Remmy 700 sps, savage 10, or Howa 1500...

Remington 700 or clone. We all shoot them, it's the most capable and configurable.

Re: next clinic A schedule??
Yeah...will probably search the boards for a used remmy 700 sps and upgrade it as i go. Would love a clone but completely out of my budget right now. Will consider one for ny 2nd bolt action build.
Any sggestions on a basic scope. Heard allot of good things on the bushnell 3200. I wanna keep it under 700 for the glass. Just looking for something to learn with. Will upgrade later to a nightforce or leu mk4. Will most likely thow it on my ar308 aftarwards.

Find a Bushnell DMR with the G2 reticle. They are super solid, more capable than a Nightforce (FFP, beter reticle) pretty cheap these days (I'm selling one in Badger rings for $1K) and the glass is totally servicable.

There is nothing in the $700 range (really $800 with rings) that comes close. If you're in this game to save $200 you're in for a hard time. That said my two scopes are now sold.

Not as solid as the Bushenll DMR but it's a pretty darn good scope. Contact Nathan or Rich at Short Action Precision and they'll hook you up a deal.

Re: next clinic A schedule??
So the Weaver Tactical, Burris MTAC, or Viper PST are not decent entry level scopes? All 3 are in the 800 ranges.
What would be the basic requirements in considering a good scope?

The mildot is so 70s ;)
The G2 is an improved mil hash reticle with 1/2 mil marks, milestone markers and a windage (xmas) tree. Much more useful than a standard mildot.

Out of those three the PST is the only one I would consider. But unless you find a great deal on a used one you wont be able to keep under your budget of $800. You want the 6-24 FFP Viper PST. Normal retail on that is $950. If your interested in one let us know and we will be able to get you a great deal.

OK, gotta ask, even though Randall already said probably NO, which is probably the only answer I need, but is there any point in attending clinic A with an ar308, dpms hunter light 20" barrel, Nikon m-308 4-16scope? I know; bolt actions only, but that's all I've got for now. OK I asked, flame suit on.

It's the wrong weapon to learn on so you'll just be wasting your money. If you're serious about this pick up a .308 Rem 700 SPS and a Bushnell 10x mildot scope, some TPS rings and a Harris BRM-S (around $1K total). Sell the gasser if need be but you wouldn't go to a golf clinic with a tennis raquet would you?

I would say although not ideal.. the rifle would probably be ok. The limiting factor is the scope. Ditch the 308 bdc scope and get a mildot based scope and you'd gain much more out of the clinic.navin r wrote:OK, gotta ask, even though Randall already said probably NO, which is probably the only answer I need, but is there any point in attending clinic A with an ar308, dpms hunter light 20" barrel, Nikon m-308 4-16scope? Hello everyone,
I'm new here and want to attend the next clinic which I heard was in March (ASR). Is there a gear list other than just bolt guns, ammo and pack? Thx

If you want to be thorough... chamber flag, shooting mat/blanket, bipod, tools. Usually if you don't have it, we make do or someone will be able to lend you something.Rudy3005 wrote:Hello everyone,

That would be an excellent setup.92E2 wrote:New Poster - Would a Sig Sauer SSG 3000 24" .308 and a FFP H59 milrad scope combo be suitable for the clinic ?
God shoots a Remington 700, drives a Chevy Truck and carries a Glock 19.
I don't do any of those things.
