10/18/2015 CAPRC Rimfire Match

Post by AR15barrels »

The California Precision Rifle Club is proud to announce that our next Tactical Precision Rimfire match will be Sunday October 18th at the Angeles Ranges.
For details about the Angeles Ranges, see their website: http://www.angelesranges.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Signups start at 8:30am and shooting should start at 9am.
This month we will be shooting on the private Eagle's Nest range D. From the main parking lot, take the road on the left, go past the Gun/Reloading store, past the shotgun range and turn right after fort angeles. Head up the steep hill to the Eagles Nest. Range D is the 4th range which will be back down the hill past range C. Park in the downhill dirt parking area (not on the range) and walk back up to range D.
Please arrive no later than 8:30am to complete your waivers, sign-in and get assigned your shooter numbers. Your shooters number is also your position on the line so please lineup accordingly. Please note that we will be in the sun all match (no overhead cover) unless people can coordinate to bring shade covers, bring fluids to drink and sunscreen. Also, the entire range is dirt, be sure to bring a shooting mat, moving blanket, or other ground cover if you don't want to lay in the dirt all day.

Match fee is $10 for Caprc members or $30 for non members.
We will finish by 1-2pm but we have the range for the day so a BBQ and practice session is also possible.
Bring 100 rounds of ammo minimum, suggest 150-200 rounds as you will have time to confirm your zero.
Be prepared to shoot as close as 10yds and as far as 150yds.
Be prepared to shoot from standing, kneeling, seated, prone and other improvised positions.

This match is open to bolt action and semi-auto rimfire rifles in .22 lr caliber only.
No Hyper velocity ammo, match grade target ammo recommended.
Bipods, slings, shooting mats and rear bags are allowed and recommended.
Chamber flags are mandatory and are available from the club if needed. Observers are welcome!
Line helpers are always needed! If you are planning on attending to just watch and not shoot, please volunteer to be a line helper. Duties may include: Helping stapling and placing targets, keeping score, and spotting. Its a great way to get up and close to the action and see whats its all about.

Line helper RSVP's will be accepted anytime.
CaPRC Member RSVP's will be accepted anytime.
Non-Member RSVP's will be accepted anytime.

Please RSVP by posting something very definite in this thread such as "I am in to shoot" or "I will be there" as we will ignore "maybe" or "if" RSVP's.
If you RSVP and later figure out that you can't come, please post that as well so we can keep the RSVP list current.
Please RSVP as soon as possible so we can ensure we print out enough targets.
Walk-ons will be accommodated if we have enough targets.

The following people have RSVP'd:

Range Officers/Line Helpers:
God shoots a Remington 700, drives a Chevy Truck and carries a Glock 19.
I don't do any of those things.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Here's a little incentive to come out and play in the rimfire game: If we get 10 shooters or more at this month's rimfire match, Victor Company USA give a Titan 1022 to the first place shooter. Second Place and Third will get a VICO T Shirt. Top 308 will get nothing.

Can we reschedule for a date that doesn't conflict with WEGC?

We have to pick our range days based on what's available at 6am on the first Tuesday in October each year for the whole following year.

We don't have any more range days reserved this year.
We have fort Angeles all day on Saturday July 30th 2016.
We could do a rimfire match in the morning and then a BBQ and props practice day in the afternoon.

What about having a rimfire match instead of (not in addition to) the monthly centerfire match?

Between the Angeles and West End venues, there are about 24 centerfire matches a year in the rough Los Angeles area. These matches are great fun, but they can get repetitive.

If, let's say, two of the CaPRC month matches per year were rimfire matches, then that would be about 22 centerfire matches and two rimfire matches per year. Even if you look at only the CaPRC matches at Angeles, that would be 10 centerfire matches and 2 rimfire matches.

I don't think there's any real need to hold the rimfire matches at Fort Angeles or some special venue either. I think the regular Angeles line would work just fine. Holding the rimfire matches on the regular line would mean we wouldn't have to plan out the rimfire matches way ahead of time.

No problem.
Pick a couple dates and run a poll and see what interest would be like.

I like Ft Angeles because we can run around with guns, use wacky props and have full control of the line to do things we can't do on the public line.

I looked but couldn't figure out how to start a poll.

I say just keep it flexible and simple. Maybe two rimfire matches per year, one in the first half of the year and one in the second? I believe the attendance at the centerfire matches drops during the summer months because people are busy with their kids, so perhaps that might be a good time to hold a rimfire match. Another suitable time might be when there is a big match out of town and a lot of the shooters are gone. Last year we held a "starter/beginner" match when the best shooters were out of town, and that was great. A rimfire match would be equally suitable I think. Just play it by ear depending on what else is going on at the time.

Fort Angeles is definitely fun. But there are problems there. We are constantly moving around to suit the different ranges and there is no shade during the summer months. It can be baking hot there. Also, Fort Angeles requires pre-planning and reservations. Since we reserve the rifle range every second Sunday of the month, running the rimfire match on the rifle range would greatly simplify planning.
