This is an open invitation to shoot on the Tri-County Gun Club's range on the Practice Day Saturday, January 17th and the modified Palma match on Sunday, January 18th.
We will be having open practice Saturday afternoon for people who want to try their guns and get their zeros at 800 to 1,000 yards. The practice will cost you $5 (to help pay for targets) and we will have experienced shooters on hand to help you get started and to teach you how to mark and pull targets in the pits. This is an opportunity to test to get your loads and skills on paper targets at long range.
Sunday morning at 0800 we will be squadding up for a modified Palma match shooting 15 rounds (+sighters) at 800, 900 and 1,000 yards. You can shoot this with anything from open sighted match rifles using slings to scoped rifles off a front rest or bipod. The match fee is $10 on Sunday and we should be done shooting by about noon.
People are welcome to dry camp at the range for the weekend, bring your own tent, camper, sleeping bag, food and water. It will be close to freezing in the morning so dress (and camp) warmly.
The range is located about 2.3 miles south of Highway 166 (the highway between Maricopa and Santa Maria) on Highway 33 (going toward Ojai)
Coming from Interstate 5 north from the LA area take Hwy 166 west toward Maricopa. In Maricopo Hwy 33 will join 166 at the (only) stop sign. Drive straight through after the stop sign about 10 miles, toward Cuyama. After you climb over the mountain take the left where Hwy 33 turns south toward Ojai. 2.3 miles south of that turn you will see a 2 foot square sign that says "Palma" on the east (left) shoulder of the road at a dirt road. You should see the range flags at the foot of the hill. Take the dirt road about 1/4 mile (bear right at the rock pile and about 200 yards past the rock pile there will be a dirt road to your right that parallels the range. Take this dirt road to where you see us camping.
Coming South on I-5 from Fresno, etc. head for Taft, CA and then take Hwy 33 south to Maricopa and take a right at the stop sign toward Cuyama and follow the directions above.
From Santa Maria take Hwy 166, 10 miles past Cuyama and turn right (south) on Hwy 33 toward Ojai
If you are interested in shooting either the Saturday practice or the Sunday match (or both) PM me and I will message you my cellphone number so that you don't get lost on the way.
